Hi I'm new here. This is a study of a toned block made in oc. Constructive criticism please.

It looks fine. What do you use to paint it?

This is not constructive in the least, but:

I really like it. Very realistic.

Thanks markf.

Here's another study. It should read white while on a pool table like surface.

Nicely rendered overall.
On the first one, the shadow is out of perspective. Shadows in high/hot keys like this are longer and in this case should extend out the picture frame.

On the second one, according to the light pattern you've set up which I believe to be coming from the top. If so there should be a "pool" of light AROUND the cube, not to the side or behind. The shadow then will be "under" the bottom edges of the cube. This would make a subtle, very subtle, gradient into shadow for the pool table material to fall off into. Also, I'd sneak a a small lighter, but warmer value on the VERY edges of the cube near the light..or the center... Be careful and subtle with it tho....but, it'll make it pop just right right.

Thanks bob.

Reakshun- good crit.
I guess that a strong light can diffuse the shadow less and extend it more.

Hmm.. What I see now is that the cast shadow is missing from the second cube image and the value on the top of the cube is quite strong.

I think could make it a bit more subtle, thanks

The first one is simply awesome imho. It makes me think that I should indeed try to do some matte white cubes. Also it reminds me of good old times here, thanks for that.

Excellent job with color and value.

How did you paint those straight edges? Freehand?

Sorry...I'm on a "how do you paint edges with a wacom pen without them being all wiggly" jag at the moment

nice renders, very well done with the reflected light and all

francis when ur zoomed out the lines get jiggly. in order to avoid this zoom in on the part ur working on. just be sure to zoom out frequently so u know ur not messing it up
