Designing an artist for a 3d short that I'm working on. I want it to be as stereotypical as possible, yet unique in style as well. Need lots of critics and comments, and paintovers and redesigns are appreciated as well.

Havin trouble doing the side views for this head that I am experimenting with. would someone care to help me on this one?

Chucked the goatee so to symplify the head for more a more economical 3d model. (plz don't hesitate to tell me if this is not the way to go) Gave him a long turtle neck for a neck. Not sure about the stripes.

Another take without the stripes. Still experimenting.

This is a cool post. Mainly coz I'm doing 3D short with a character similar to that one. Imo you're taking a 2D stylized character into 3D, sometime I dont htink it works, but I like your design, that could work. A crit I would give is that you wouldn't be able to see the lip syncing very well with such a small mouth. Unless you really open it with huge morph targets. I think with a character like this you will have to make him really exaggerate his movements. Think of what he would do in a 2D short and try and replicate that in 3D.

I think the character is fine, just make sure you work out a way to animate him convincingly. Even make a few drawings of what his face will look like in various emotive states. Just so you get an idea of how to animate and rig him.

Very nice, and highly executable with SubD's. Great stuff.

thx for the comments Thr3ddy and The Real Mark. I will be moddelling him in Lightwave usin subD's. NEed more comments regarding design though. There will be no lyp synching in my short so I think the small mouth might be ok. Will take your advice (The real Mark) into great concideration though since he will still be doing basic expressions. Going to experiment with head redesigns. Here are a few updates i had posted on conceptart.org.

Head variations regarding silhouettes, still having trouble with these. The original side view for the head still looks stronger than these in my opinion.

Changed tehe pants a bit to make the design a little more interesting and artsy fartsy. Critics, and comments plz.

Tried out changing the hat into hair, which sent a few shivers up my spine when I thought about them animationwize. Maybe if they just stood still, it would be ok, but i still think the hat helps more into making him look like an artist/painter.

Sketchovers, paintovers are very much welcome. Anything that helps plz. Would this character look ok in a somewhat blank background? I need advice on character design that would help that.

More info regarding the short: The character will be moving around quite a bit...

Will post more updates later.
