So, after a long hiatus of not having shown anything, here's an update of sorts...

Done in Painter 7 & Photoshop 7 with reference for certain things like the hemlets and flame

The above picture will be used in Iron Curtain (mod for Generals ZH), which we've been working on in secret for the past year and was just announced recently.

I understand that the composition is not the best thing about this painting, it's actually recoloured version of a revision of this:

I just had to fill up the space with something such that it'll be good on 1024x768. This will probably end up being cropped anyway for pictures used in the launcher and so on, as well as a backdrop for the ingame menu, which will obscure most of the top right side of the image (thus the lack of anything there)

So... yea, C&C please? And it'd be interesting to see and read how you would reposition the piece, feel free to paintover, I'm here to learn anyway. Smile

Your value and tonal range all across is very uniform, which flattens the image a bit. Here's a quick suggestion:

Affected: Did you mean to use a darker value to silhouette the foreground figures? I kinda wanted the detail and lightening there to not draw the viewer to any one point in the entire composition (or lack of), and I don't quite know what you mean by the tonal values, maybe it's because there isn't much depth to begin with? (hence I said it's a bad composition)

Anthony: lol yea, but you could've painted over the original, because it seems you brightened up some parts that Affected dulled down... btw the glow on the right-side structure is quite interesting, any actual reason as to why it may appear so other than for balance and to maintain the form?

yes, I did it on purpose. Of course if the detail is important, you'd have to employ some other device, but generally I don't think it's a good idea not to try to draw the viewer's attention somewhere...
