hello again. it's been absolutely ages since i posted, but here is some stuff.
these are for a kids' book about astronauts:
these are for firetrap clothing:
virgin inflight:
for a kids' book about down syndrome (not much time for this, hence the sloppy background):
this is a personal project I've been working on sporadically for nearly a year, with a writer friend called Craig Scutt. I did these character shots a couple of weeks ago.
lastly, a shoe ad for evisu clothing:
hope you like em! |

You've improved quite a bit since I last saw your stuff. Way nice. You wouldn't peg a lot of these clients as going for an anime look, but you do it in such a tasteful way that I can see why they're using you.
Keep it up Gez. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Outstanding. I love the astronaut stuff and the white buffalo character sketches. Is that a comic book? Is it out soon? _________________ Francis Tsai

Absolutely stunning.
I'd like to point out that in the virgin inflight drawing the boxer seems to be aiming at someone else than the guy that's in the forefront, maybe it's intentional? _________________ "Ever forward, my darling wind." -Master Yuppa

These are really awesome! Nice diversity of styles. They also look like real labour of love. I don't know how to explain it--there are tons of great artists out there, but you don't always feel that labour of love when you look at all of them. I think it's something you can't quite put into words--it's just there. Even if they are freelance work and not your own project, I think some artists just enjoy what they do more than others. |

thanks a lot guys!
balistic - actually i didn't think this style was big in the illustration industry either, but apparently Japanese styles (or 'manga' as they are always referred to.. haha) are hot right now. I'm acutely aware that these fads come and go, so I try to avoid pigeonholing myself and maybe stray from the anime look with some more western techniques. Though sometimes, clients will specifically request the cel-shading, in which case I have no choice. But that's cool with me, as variety is the spice of life.
Francis - thanks man. it's planned as a comic book and 3D animation, but it's one of too many projects i've got on at the moment. the one personal project that i'm determined will see the light of day is a sequential picture book, but i haven't posted any of that yet.
ragnarok - thanks. you're right about the boxer
Luna - thanks man, good to hear from ya. i'm glad you think that about my stuff too - enjoyment is the single most important part of drawing if you ask me. |
