Hi !!
I'm working since 8 months for Darkworks company on a big horror-action videogame and the publisher, Ubisoft had recently begun the communication about the game.
It seems better and better since the release date is coming closer. So, we can show some of the artworks we've produced for the game as some of them are used for the press articles.
I'm working with Benjamin "Ornicar" Carr.
We've got tons of concept arts but we can't still show all of them now.
Here's one of the first:
It was done with the awesome Benjamin "Ornicar" Carr.
Benjamin works on it less than a day. He's done more than half of the picture (composition, colors, dynamic) and then I've worked one day more on it to add details and make the changes we were asked for.
Here are 2 others conceptarts. I've done the first for a creature which can suck the light up (or creating dark light ?) and an other mutant...
All of our production images (also a lot of environnments) are on the same quality standard.
This game is definetly really violent and dark.
You can find some news, screenshots and previews on a lot of videogame news websites.
More is coming (videos soon)
Here's some sample of in-game screenshots :
I find interesting to show the concept arts and then how it is in the finished game, after adjustments, 3D retouches... It can give you some ideas of the whole creating process, from the first picture then to the 3d models and then "in situation" in the game.
We'll show more soon...Some conceptarts, behind the scene pictures and environments...
http://www.darkworks.com/ for more...
---------------------------------------
2 other conceptarts :
---------------------------------------
Another artwork used as promotional material :
The boat background was done by Beet. I've only done the foreground character and the integration and fixed the finished image.
The cover of a videogame magazine :
----------------------------------------
got some news I can show.
Maybe the creatures the most frigthening and successful of the game, the Exo-cells.
some researches about it, trying different approaches:
and then after hard brainstorms, thinking about animations, movements, credibility, technical possibility, we got these parasites :
in situation :
and the technical modelsheet, not too sexy but the basics for the 3D models. It really comes to life with animations.
interesting news about the technical creative process of these creatures here :
http://worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=23255&mode=thread&order=0
and an incredible news about these creatures.
They are real !!!
http://www.coldfeargame.com/us/bulletin/
love this total immersion exercice. We've push it deeper on some others extras for the game.
----------------------------------------
Some new concept arts...
One of the main character of the game, Anna Kamsky :
An environment concepet art, seen on the website :
And another creature, a big one, the Exo-B 7.0 "ExoMass", seen also on the last issue of Edge magazine :
and the model sheet, the technical pic for the 3D artists :

The first piece is amazing... Maybe you should end with that one.
You've really got a talent for composition in addition to your obvious technical skills. A lot of the scenes have a real energy to them. _________________ HEY YOU! We're looking for a few good pixel artists |

Cool. I love the first pic and the two creature concepts. They remind me a lot of Doom 3 though. The mutant looks alot like the wraith (I think, I haven't played in a while, but it looks like one of the monsters). |

Fiend : it depends but it's between 1 and 3 days, for a good looking posing like those i've posted plus a detailed model sheet, for better references for the 3D modelers (front, side and back view of the character or creature, with Hi Res textures so it helps a lot for building the 3d models).
When everything's fine (in the "can-you-do-it-for-yesterday?"way), it's one day for the posing and then another one for the modelsheet but most of the time it needs more time, just in order to have a fresh view of the works and for doing changes needed by the story, the gameplay, the marketing... and having the most interesting ideas (that's the hardest). I really often add changes on my work the days after I've done it, sometimes by sharing with the modelers or other people of the Cold Fear Crew.
Sometimes, for some more difficult creatures, I need more time, to create a logical and interesting link between all the creatures and characters...(condensed brainstorm). Same thing for the environments...Sometimes it needs more time to find the good ideas and then after a lot of try and sweet everything looks clearer and easier, when you're completly into the project and the universe.
For detailed artwork scenes, I ask for one or two day more, just to fix everything at best when it's done for print or promotion, using as much time as I can to have the best pictures. (sometimes I can't and production stuff is used without any changes)
I've spend certainly most of time (2 weeks?) on the box illustration of the game, just because everyday, changes were asked by the marketing crew.
That's the whole story
You know everything.
here's Beet's website :

He's done few but really cool stuff for us. An awesome artist. |

The official COLD FEAR website is now open :
COLD FEAR WEBSITE
You can take a look at some video of the game.
I'm too happy that we can show now how exactly the game is good looking.
Here's the final image I've done with Benjamin Ornicar Carr for the box cover :
Box Cover
And finally, we've got a Marylin Manson track... |

I'm really amazed with your skils. The characters are great. I especially like your "Crow" art - the face expressions are outstanding. How long have you been painting and what's your fave media? Painter? _________________ Pasta la Pizza... Baby. |

Thanks.
Don't know how long I've been painting.
I'm 26, began professionaly at 21 and was drawing certainly since I was 13.
I'm using only Photoshop CS and traditional media. |
