Hiya, long time no post.

I wanted to share this recent piece of mine and maybe get some critique. I do want to create more realistic paintings and this is one step on that long way.

Thanks for looking...

Oh, yes, just in case...

For that picture I used a lot of Photo Reference for the girl to start with. So lighting and pose is referenced from a picture but everything is heavily modified.

i like the tones in her face and body.. the blurring of the trees was a good idea...the only thing that doesn't work for me is the sky...clouds n such....overall its hekka cool

What bugs me about this picture is that it seems too much in the mid tones to function well. It's supposed to be night, so there should be more instense blacks. even on her body. You might have wanted to kinda colourless look to the skin, which then I won't comment on. Horror pics look really kewl that way. The other thing is the hair. It feels as if it is only an attempt to make it look somewhat like hair instead of spending the time and detail that the rest fo the picture has but into it.

You may also want to go and smooth out the brushstrokes on ther shouldrs, and over her skin. This will help with the realism angle. Although you say this is just the start in the process, if you feel like it or have the time I would push this piece more, because I feel it is just about at the point where it could be totally awesome. I hope to see more from you soon.

Thanks for the comments...

@the_insider
I will keep that in mind. Thanks. Smile

@faeklone
I thought about giving her a much darker shadow, taking into account the background lighting, but then I feel that she would have been only a part of the picture instead of jumping out at the viewer.
After this comment I believe to have no choice but to go back and spend some more time on the hair. Wink

Something about the trees (I guess they're more like twigs really?) in the foreground makes the perspective go off... She seems huge once you realize the black branches are in front of her, not behind her.

Your comments made me work some more on the picture...
Here is the update... hope its better now, Smile

@Affected
Hmmm, interesting. I don't think she looks huge but then again I am probably too close into the picture. Does anybody agree with affected on that?
