Why is it computers never seem to work just how you want them to?? A few problems;

- There's something definitely wrong with my Hitachi GD8000 DVD player. It can play a DVD from start to finish, but during play, the dvd software (media player or Power DVD 4xp) will just shut down without warning! This may happen several times during a dvd, but mainly happens within the first 20 minutes of play, they it's ok.
Any ideas why? The dvd plays CDs ok.

- How do you listen to music via the headphone sockets in the CD rom players at the front of a PC? I stick headphones in the socket and hear nothing, apart from what my speakers play.

- When I check my system's properties in windows, it says I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 1900 at 1600GHZ, however I bought my comp (or thought I did) with an AMD 1900ghz. Did the guys who installed my PC cheat me?

- So: Is there any way to check the performance of your PC? a test you can do online or some software? Is there anything you can do to increase performance of your PC? I supposedly have 1.5GHZ of DDR RAM, yet I still suffer from PhotoShop crashes and Ram shortages when working on big files with PS.

- Lastly, is there anyone that knows their sh!t when it comes to Java programming and webpages? I have a music playing on my website via a start and stop gif button, but need to make this Netscape compatible and don't know how!

Any help would be appreciated. These little problems can really bug me and 'd love to know the answers to them.

cheers

(btw, if you remember the My computer and PhotoShop problems I was having- I got 'em fixed without formatting

#1 - no idea

#2 - did you turn up the volume know on your CD-rom?

#3 - AMD's CPU designation has nothing to do with the clockspeed of the CPU - they named it like that so it sounds better compared to a pentium, because even though the clockspeed might be slower, AMD cpu's have a similar performance and beat Intel CPU's in quite a few areas. So, your cpu is fine

#4 - SiSoft's Sandra is pretty cool - but there are some other utils too - do a search on it ...

#5 - remove the music from your page - playing music on a site is usually extraordinarily annoying and makes people flee a page before they even looked at it ...

Where did you buy your computer Bomu? It sounds a lot like some of the problems I was having on my Compaq computer before I ripped out it's guts and assimilated them into a nice Antec case with a new mobo and processor

...NEVER buy those full computer systems you see in stores, especially from compaq...they build everything as cheaply as possible...

to help you with your problems...I'd suggest maybe trying to find the newest drivers for your stuff...and for a preformance boost...you could go into your bios and mess around with your setting and overclock some things...but not if you don't know what you're doing.....good luck!

1.5GHZ of DDR RAM - even 1.5 GB is A LOT no probs there. Prolaby just windows.
Fix it by downloading the latest mandrake...

If your useing trial DVD player software or a downloaded one then it might be shuting off the player automatically as a rude way to make you buy it. Thats what happened to me. Those bastards.

Don't get premade computers. Get assembled ones. HP is crap. Compaq is crap. They're all crap.

Your processor was probably just bin sorted incorectly. I wouldn't worry, over the 1 ghz mark it just becomes a flashy number.

DO NOT put sounds on your website or god will poke your eyes OUT! HTML will probably get the job done anyways, compatability issues get nasty.

Thanks for the help guys! Ok, the Processor query is answered. Yay! But the rest still baffles me.

Loki, yeah, I checked the volume controls, but still no luck with me DVD or CDRW drives. My friend has the same problem with different CD rom drives, so I thought I'd ask for both our sake's.

As far as web page musc goes, I'm not ditching it! I know what you mean, but that's why I asked my original question, so people can use the button to turn it on or off if they want it! the script works with IE, but not Netscape at the moment. There is a way, but I just need to find someone who knows and is willing to help.

Nilwort, I got my comp from a mail order company - it worked out cheaper that way, than me buying all the parts seperatly and It's custom made except for the CD/ DVD ROM drives, which I only asked for speed requirements and not make/brand.

Coaster, Dito what I've mentioned already.

but thanks again.
