Some things that aren't mention that often is materials and their different tonal values, kind of bends the rules of light rules.
Have been looking at an traditional rubber(eraser) I have at my table here beneath me computer and when using it to erase with it gets dark in the end of it and if lit the old lead on the eraser still is dark, what kind of definition would this dark have? it would certainly not be shadow. Think Loomis said something about that there can't be dark in light but this must be a paradox then cause there can obviously be dark in light.
Snif I am rambling, nevermind me move along.
Here's a scribble, I can just imagine what my color theory teacher would say about it, define that out of color area! hehe I know what he means nowadays though.

retro, in my eyes it looks very nice! And well, i know how hard it is to control Watercolor this way! Really good use of hard/soft edges.
Matthew shows us all how you can struggle with it.
But anyway, those of yours, Matthew, getting better and better! Every single one is worth a closer look - like them.
