Hi,
My name is Bryce, and a few years ago, I had an idea to remake a classic computer game. The game was called King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella.
Here are a couple screenshots from the original game.
The game was amazing for its time. Now, I happen to be a programmer (it's what I currently do for a living as I attend school). I've finished several other old-style games that I made when I had more time. I created the engines for the games from scratch. This project wasn't really going to be any different. It would just be larger.
So, I started working on remaking the backgrounds while simultaneously making the engine from scratch. Here's a couple pictures of what I came up with:
.. and here's a couple screenshots of what these screens are supposed to live up to:
As you can see, the originals have a nice pretty saturated feeling to them. It makes the game have a storybook feel.
I started this project about a year and a half ago, and since then, I have gotten much MUCH more busy. To make matters worse, you can see that I'm not a very good artist. I know exactly how I want each image to turn out, and they never meet my expectations. I've since given up on making my own engine, because of how busy I am.
The biggest thing I have against me is the number of fan projects that have died so similiar to this one. If you look at my website (very outdated as I'm designing a new one) you can see I've already finished several projects very similiar to this one.
So basically, I'm wondering if anyone would like to work on this project as an artist. I've done a lot of the work, and I know a lot of people here do artwork just as a hobby. I would love to see someone that actually enjoys working on backgrounds like these to join me in working on this project.
A couple facts
-I have a good base (the images I've already done) on about 20-30 of the backgrounds
-All the backgrounds will have to be resized down to a small size (320x200). I've learned a good method for doing this without losing too much detail.
-This is a spare time project. I've been working on it as much as I possibly can, but I'm a perfect example of how this isn't normally very much time
We're working on a new website with a more professional layout, but here's a link to the current one:

Anyways, please think about it, and email me at [email protected] |

Is the reason that this is getting no replies due to lack of faith in the project, or because it's just blatant advertising, or, no interest? |

Your post was fine. I'm aware of the fandom around those old Sierra adventure games, but it's kind of a niche thing . . . a lot of the people here have probably never even used a computer that had a turbo button.
And of course, opinions differ on Roberta Williams.
I'd actually be tempted to help, were I not so busy. Would give me an excuse to fire up Autodesk Animator again. But alas, it ain't gonna happen unless they add more hours to the day.
Best of luck with your project though.
You might try the collaborative projects forum at CGTalk. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |
