I'm making this illustration for our Halo 2 clan website. I know, it is lame, but this gives me an excuse to draw one of the greatest heroes all the time, Master Chief.

I really want to finish this piece and I'm somewhat infamous for my lack of patience. That's why I decided to post this Work-In-Progress, just to keep me on going.

He is supposed to sit on a throne of somekind, but I'm at loss how to do it. Any suggestions for the right hand (left from our perspective), in example, are more than welcome. I'm trying to make him accurately as I can so please inform me of any missing details/ stuff.

Just a suggestion, but what about a parachute landing? He could be preparing for impact, and the flag in his hand would be a spear to be stuck in the ground to proclaim yourself the ruler of the land?

really liked this, so I made a quick paintover. Since he's looking down I thought it would be cool to see him from a lower viewpoint, and, well, that's it..

My brother asked for some help so here goes.

What bugs me most about this piece is not the throne (freebooter sent it to me) but the general balance of values in the character. The drawing works already, despite the unfinished throne.

So here's a small example of how you could expose the image. The throne is still kinda off (the material is undefined) in these images, but that can be fixed easily.

Whoops I did it again.. Twisted Evil

u guys are brothers? cool. Smile

Gonna be cool to see your next update here freebooter.
Mikko, really tight overpaint and thumbnails, thumbnails are always good to do. Think I would go for flat shadows but that depends on the environment in color though, I guess that chief dude is always green? (*Me admits that I am not playing games that much.)

ok later

I like it, in a Conan meets Sci-Fi sort of way. You should definitely continue to work on this.

Thanks, Zoso, I'm going to continue this as soon as I have time. Good comparison by the way. I had, indeed, Conan in mind when I was starting on this picture.

Mikko K thanks a lot for those thumbnails, but I'm still relatively at loss on what to do with the throne.

Misc > thanks a lot but I think I'm not changing the angle.. I purposefully drew him straight ahead and very symmetrical. I don't want to change the angle and thus the feeling of the image so artificially, I'm afraid.

Look forward for the next upgrade this Wednesday..

Everything is looking excellent now. I have nothing constructive to say about the values, but I too like the version with flat shadows that MikkoK did. It gives the picture a kind of fantasy-like fuzzy atmosphere.

As a drawing I think it works well. The pose is awesome as always, and the porpotions are correct. Maybe the, from our view, lower left leg could be a bit thicker.

Good work, and don't give up or I'll kick your arse in Halo 2 again...
