good all.
Try using brush angle set to pressure with custom brushes of dots or letters or whatever, it's fun! Get some nice swirly smoke-like shapes :)

Do you know where to find some info about composition? I’d like to know how to build it correctly (like you have shown) |
nope, sorry, no special sources(well, one is my professor at university, but thats nothing can help you) - but i think the most important is to know how it could work - i give you an idea as some different people/books gave me before ... thats how it works! You take this idea and while studying pictures next time, well, have it in mind. And well, don't forget to turn all those ideas around and mix some new out of it ... noone will tell you all answers in one lesson.
PS: there is no "correct" way ...
PPS: hey, the ship rocks!
sukhoi, i like your later version of the flowertank best - the contrast in the earlier one is burning too much ... well, perhaps something inbetween could be a choice.
mitsui, your two russian trinking wodka are quite nice ... only the people in the background are out of perspective.
hazoc, this is damn cool
capt. fred ... like it ... ... really like it, it has something .. well, ... special; don't you think.

hey everyone. been awhile now. been doing some open canvas lately but just sloppy doodles. nothing to show really. Heres a robot i did today inspired by sparth.
ax hv- youre really rockin it. i liked the last ship alot. you really caught the light in a good way. very nice.
spooge, and everyone - you wouldnt have some tips on color temperatures would you`? I just rescently read richard schmids ALLAPRIMA. wich was very good but i feel sort of confused. When he talks about holding a consistent temperature in the shadows and light. I find it very hard to choose wich colors to mix into the shadows. He says that 99% of the time warm light equals cool shadows. wich is true outside, anyway due to the reflecting color from the atmosphere right? but whatabout inside? Does this hold true aswell? I mean for instance a closed room with lamps that have warm light shadows are warm colors too right? How do you most often go about choosing you shadow colors?? I would be very gratefull for some tips, from anyone here!
oh and heres the picture

At school we conducted some light/shadow experiment once. We used ordinary lightbulbs with coloured filters infront of them and the shadows produced by the different colored lights always turned out to be the complimentary color to the lightsource.
Also on photographs I might add. So it's not JUST the mind playing tricks.
On top of this fact I guess it depends on what colour the main ambiance is and if light spills/reflects/etc. directly into the shadow you're doing.
So the colour of the light affects the shadow colour, as does as the main ambiance. (blue sky in daylight for instance)
My two cents. Correct me if my vocabulary of "facts" aren't correct.

balistic, thanks,i like to see your really sketchy stuff,i feel there should be more of that in this thread...
stewart one, thank you very much,i cant see your pics btw, inside lights are a different story because of all the semi-reflective surfaces, the reflected light is crazy inside,so the colour of your shadows can vary GREATLY.
thanks, trurl, maybe some more half-tones in there?
ax--hv,thanks again.that is a nice boat, you are VERY consistent.i would like to see some stuff from life from you.
mitsui, thank you,i like pretty much everything you do.
dangerous llama,i like it!
retro,i love what you do.you make me feel like a coward
paint to post-

Ref used.
Colors still continue to be a problem for me. So today I decided to hell with it.
I like the result.
Sukhoi, Great piece there. I wish I had that kind of understanding of color. I read your take on colors too, it's very interesting. So which factor, complimentary color, ambience, or reflective color has the most influence on the shadow color? |
