Well, I like it.
Yes it is dark but there are some good contrast.
I think you should make the armor and the sword more metallic, make more metallic reflections. _________________ Gabriele Fabbri

Interesting work, the drawing and composition are goods, but there is a problem with the shading.
At many places the shading looks muddy (be careful not to over use the soft brush, and use more often darker shade of your color to shade, you over used black to do your shading, black can be ok to shade, but there is too much of it in this artwork.)
Try to overall aim for more sharpness, (sky is too blurry) blur must be used carefully when its not to represent fast movements like blurring a bit the vampire's hand, or an edge of the sword, etc.)
Also try to add subtle color variations in your shading, like the arm will have some shade of red or purple/blue, it wont just go to black in the shadows.
Don't let my words get you down, keep going!
(You could achieve vengeance on me by criticizing my terrible grammar and text structure. )

thx alot for pointin that out Spectra !! i'll keep it in mind for sure =) hmm that leads me to three questions:
1. how can i avoid shading certain parts which dont belong to the area im currently working? (mask, hardedged brush...?!)
2. do professionals use selectionmasks to prevent certain areas from being affected? ( i guess spooge doens't =) but how about others?)
3. how can i find out more about subtle color variations. i def. need more exp. with this but whats a good exercise to start with?
again, thanks for taking the time to reply

I like your vamp, very cool.
I think the shields are not evident on first sight, you could remove both and the guy's left forearm without impacting the picture at all. If you remove the vamp's shield than you can actually see what's further into the forest, maybe a pack of wolves heh heh (or their eyes) _________________ "I'm not a shrimp, I'm a KING PRAWN !" -- Pepe.
