Here's a step by step for my second picture :
Maybe it could interest some of you.
I've forgotten some little notes on my picture. You can find references in magazines, books dedicated to the subject of your illustrations (here it is Swat, guns, military clothes, Spec Ops...) and one of the most easy and useful tool is certainly Google.com "Images". Documentation and references is something really important !!!
You can also look at the works of others artists, not to copy them but to think about the way they manage the same subject, to find some points you can use in your works, some you can't (For example here a third green light in the middle of the head would have been too much influenced...)
I've forgotten to say here that I'm using again a printed copy of my first sketch to draw the second one.
At the colors step, I knew that I would use an orange color for the background. I've tried to keep a really graphic feeling by using a really limited and simple palette. Orange, black and white. For this piece it's more about graphic design influences than painter's influences. Just a choice... |

Simply amazing works!
I really like about the first one, that it's detailed and "clean" without losing its ambiguity. Many similar pieces lose that in the finishing process.
The cop is definitely a favorite. Really good drawing. Don't ever paint over those lines, its so much cooler than a lot of painterly, fuzzy stuff.
Keep up the good work! |
