You guys make me so jealous, it's sick. I've been drawing quite some time now, but I still suck so bad at it.
Given my ID background, the visualisation styles I find myself limited to are (crap) 3d images and horribly rigid, flat sideviews like the one below. It's a disgrace to this thread... please forgive me.
/me goes for another attempt at faster drawing :/

great work all, liking your stuff, axhv, tomur, mitsui. improvement can be seen everywhere!
haha, i found spooge's movie amazingly unenlightening. Reminds me of the story of the car mechanic. it's all about 'knowing where to kick it'. mm, if any one missed that one never mind. I guess it's just that the process isn't really that special, it's the knowledge and experience that guides it, etc.
went to london, and tried to absorb something about buildings.
I think I grasped that way forward is to understand something to the last detail, whatever level of detail you are painting at. that way i suppose a big blobby stroke still contains all the right information for further refining. the other thing I try to remember, is when spooge and others talk of simplification, i think they are talking talking about simplifying the forms, not the shapes. you can use as many brush strokes as you like as long as the forms look solid. (correct me if I'm wrong!)
still I can't expect to be able to wing the telephoto perspective

Glad you like it Llama, most people seems to prefer the second one even though I myself like the first one better. I guess it's a personal technical achievement vs most interesting motif thing. <:)
Matthew, that house in landscape shot is a great painting.
Pato, nice dead guy
Spooge, really nice back on the lady. Btw, aren't those helmets very blue for a sky that pink..? (Just hit me.)
I tried to make some kind of backlit crusoe guy, but ended up with some muddy thing I gave up on. his eyes were supposed to be open at first too, but I just couldn't get the right values and/or colours to them so I just closed them up. Sigh. Anyone who has any tips on painting backlit things are welcome to launch them at me.

Octavian, Misc, Tomur, Watmough, Mitsui, Capt. Fred> thanks!
Sup_Ben, Capt. Fred, Freeboter> uh, i like your works!
Octavian> i use both sharpen filter and tool. (Soft brush with opacity jitter on). If the picture is too smooth i apply sharpen filter with fade near to 20%. For painting in atmosphere try Vivid light.. actually it's possible to use any suitable layer set in combination with various opacity settings for this purpose. I think it can look bad if the brush isn't soft enough.
Tomur> i am working for the game about postapokalyptic racing but particularly this one was for fun
Spooge> i admire your ability to paint so incredibly laconic! Looks like you know exactly how to depict every single form. How do you achieve it? What do you do to improve?
After Matthew

ax-hv: Your last ones rock. I don't like that demon too much. But most of the other stuff on the last pages is pretty nice!
This is the f105 thunderchief :D It is pretty skewed and the colours are too joyful again. Arrrr
That is why I made this one. A value/colour study thing. It's not colourful.. but too red I think, looking at it again.

ax-hv, thanks :)
based on a painting i did for rocco's thread. I decided to join in the bond concept fun :)
I think both rocco-x and I would welcome any points to think about when painting water like this! I'm sure I've overlooked something important in the way I've struggled to paint the water! |

Matthew, I really like the one before your last...(dying.jpg) Probably your best imho.
Mitsui: nice image, but maybe too much rendering? I also feel liek the girl is going to fall over. watch that balance. (hope you don't mind a crit)
ax hv: thanks for the insight. today I tried a different approach to how I think about atmosphere. Did it work? i dunno. well anyway, your pics are always fun to peep out. keep em comin.
capt. fred: NICE! reminds me of something... like a videogame I played before. hmm
I went to lake Tahoe today and hung out in the snow. Its right around the corner from my house and I wonder why I don't go there more often. anyway, a quickie inspired by my excursion. I'm sure some cropping could help my composition. crits always welcome!

Yeehaw, finally got my new internet connection. Too bad it doesn't get activated until tomorrow.
Anyway, really, really nice stuff guys. How do you find the time? School (not art school) has the nasty ability to steal almost all of my time, allowing me only to doodle every now and then, but hardly even open a tube of acrylics nor PS.
*sniff* BW painting from my mind to see if I've learnt anything. Guess I haven't gotten as far as I wanted to. Yet.
