THE SLUMBER ROOT
The root of this plant, taken in powdered form, is said to induce a great sleep, capable of curing all ills.

Thanks again guys I really appreciate it.
Sukhoi, wuw really neat perspective and pic
Bg, nice to see you back in the speedy, hope u will post more
ax--hv, really nice your latest
Seth1, yea I ride the skateboard but not as much as I used too, I started at the age of 7 back in the 80's and then I quit at 15 to start again around the age 20. Nowadays I am too old I feel but me younger brother forces me to come along and skate, although it is really funny stuff I put me strengths in the art now. Nice to see another skateboard dude in here, keep it up.
ok not sure what happened here, I feel I could do a lot better but I called it a morning on it and on to other stuff. keep up everyone.

what are those Jesuits up to now? Had ref on the cops.
thanks, ballistic, skullmonkeys, jfb!
pato, I like your dead guy. Looks familiar somehow.
annisahmad, thanks, Here is a
tank movie. There are a couple more floating around, cant find them now, but its all the same general idea.
P-rik, yes I am an illustrator. Not really an artist, thats the way I feel about it.
Octavian, yeah ideas are dime a dozen but I would pay a lot more for a good one. On your painting, dont paint from photos, at least not yet. Paint studies from a still life and then do one more finished. From life. From what said before you know that the reason I dont like photos is NOT because its cheating, but because photos are not good enough records to use them instead of life. Very practical considerations, not I only paint from life macho. You might have to paint from photos at some point, or out of your head, and if all you have done is photo ref, you will jump off a bridge. photos and ice cream are great and easy, but you can't live on them.
I really like your dolls zhuzhu
That CU looks good Socar, I get it better now. The face looks like you! |

@spooge: did you do any rioting lately?
@socar: looks great, reminds me a bit of renaissance science book illustrations (in case you were going for that). The spidery legs in combination with the angelic fairly-tale face are a bit creepy though..
@drunkenmonkey: amazing. cant put my finger on it though.. (maybe I got a thing for noses?)
I think this sketchystuff is finally starting to go somewhere:

My second more or less serious try at cg paintings - any comments would be very appreciated! too grey? Hair is blurry and the body was done in one minute.

octavian - I agree with you. It's very hard to accept the suffering of a familiar.
spooge - thanks! But I have to agree with you, is very familiar with your stuff and others here. I am trying to get used to the digital medium, and this board have helped me a lot. But I think that I am suffering a lot of influences, not just in the technique but in composition and themes too! Just like when we start to learn painting or drawing. It's very weird because I have some experience in other mediums, and some mileage, but till now I can't translate my little experience in to the digital... Sometimes I think I will never achieve this. Sorry if bothered you or someone else. |

ax hv: DUde, I am digging your line qaulity and shapes!!
Spooge: thanks for the words. Though, I am wondering how I will get the "life experience" while painting on the computer. I paint from life with oils about 2-3 times a week. I just never take time to photograph them. Personally, I think traditional medium is my strong point.. i just can't get photoshop to behave in a pleasing way. I think my problem is I treat it like I'm painting traditionally. Lately I've been trying to get myself to use photoshop in more "photoshop" esque ways. I'm starting to wonder why I would want any medium to mimick another... seems pointless. Photoshop is photoshop... will always be so. Its just a hard medium to put that "human" mark into a painting. hmm.
Matthew, I really dig that painting you started. Maybe I could try an overpaint and take it further? dunno, see how motivated I am after I eat.
Pato: Your comment to spooge is EXACTLY how I feel. I am struggling to work the digital medium as succesfully as I do with traditional. I wonder what the "key" is? Maybe changing the way I use photoshop.
anyone ever read the Akira graphic novels? man, the drawing is so tight. I think of them as fine art. really cool stuff.
anyway, post to blab...

CU, spooge? Not familiar with the term....
And, yeah, now that you mention it, damn face does look like mine. Every face I ever draw looks like mine, even when it's supposed to be somebody else's. When my drawing teacher in art school told me this happened to most artists, I thought he was being silly, but it really is a curse. _________________ Dignity isn't important. It's everything.

Matthew: here is the overpaint... not sure I got much accomplished with it and I'm afraid that I sort of ruined the emotion. I am still trying to stay away from detail. I hope you don't mind, I just wanted to paint over it because it looked so cool to me.
Mitsui: ahhh, so good! I love the lower left uber redness! great atmosphere too.
ax hv: man, you get those wonderful lines. Can I ask you how you get your lines so clean in photoshop? is it unsharp mask? or is it the sharpen tool? in particular, I mean the rear end of the buggy. Some areas are sharp and some arent. I was also wondering if you had any suggestions about painting in atmosphere to an image... I've tried different layers set to soft light etc, but it usually looks pretty bad. any suggestions?
btw, your last image is really nice! no, its BADASS... man I can't stop staring at it. Such a cool Idea. I think you could get a better composition if you pushed some of those "halfway" meteorites all the way across the canvas. I mean to say we don't need to see them in mid flight... dig?
overpaint of matthews latest image. ugh. crits are TOTALLY welcome.

Spooge: that tank movie was very inspiring! All those small value changes at the right place... I was reading through some old posts, and I saw that you had recorded some opencanvas pics, are those available for DL anywhere?
ax-hv, socar: good stuff!

llama, I know it's raining. But not HERE. What did Manoa get last week? 10 inches? And now you have more sweet juicy heavy convection over your already saturated island. Succulent moisture coming up from the deep tropics. I see the fronts on satellite coming across 3000 miles of ocean, sweeping down Kauai and Oahu, and... stopping. I can see the bastard from here! I am out there with a hose trying to keep my citrus from croaking, and there is a flood watch 50 miles away. I have probably 5 inches since last winter. You might get that tonight. I bet the republicans have something to do with it. |
