Alright, I'm trying to make a piece for a friend of mine. He makes his own music, but he wants some cover art. I told him that I would try. So far, it's going a lot harder then I thought it would. So, this is my idea on this piece. It's not that great so far. But, basically, it's gonna be the side view of a head, have headphones in the foreground and his hair in the background, basically making it look like a scenery piece, but not...if anybody knows what i mean...any ideas or critiques would be absolutely appreciated. thx.

I saw a landscape until i read what you wrote, then i saw both head and landscape So that much has worked.
Keep going. |

I see it too. The trick is gonna be in balancing the scenery with just the right amount of visual clues about the headphones and side of head. I guess you just have to dive in a start experimenting to see what does or doesn't work. Oh, btw... great concept. |

That's what I saw too. So obviously your concept is working already.
I think color is key here.
Green hills and mountains and trees are out.
I think I'd go with sand dunes and desert in the background.
It will make an easier blend with the side of the head.
My workflow would be:
1. Find a really good photo of the desert with sand dunes
and a sort of "moon scape" feel.
2. Shoot some reference shots of someones head with the earphones.
--do shots from various distances. It might work well with more of the
subjects head and face than you're using now.
3. Composite the two in photoshop and pick the one you like best.
4. Using that as reference do a series of comprehensive drawings
to put the freehand artistic feel back into the piece.
5. Pick the best couple of drawings, and...
6. Paint. |

neat idea. I'm eager to see it done. _________________ I just realised that my screen name is Wagner, but my last name is Wagner, I'm not making any references to anyone. |
