I've actually been spending some time on this one so I figured I'd post it and see if I can get some feedback. Since I have them, I figure I may as well post the progress shots.
From oldest to most recent:
sketch to figure out what I'm going to do
After zooming in on the figures. Did too much detail work for this stage.
Scrapped the foreground figure and did some sketches to figure out what to replace it with. Ended up with these two figures.
Blocked in the new figures and resized one of them.
Most recent version. I lowered the horizon for a better silhouette, resized the mid-ground figure and started detailing both the new figures. Also switched the arm position around.
So that's where I am now... I plan to keep working on it until I can consider it finished. This may take some time.
Naturally, I'm hoping for feedback. |

Kinda hard to give feedback until you 'blocked in ' roughly the whole image and we can see the ciomposition, lights, etc. Its quite dark, you seem to be doing ok with anatomy, the lighting on the edges seem a bit artificial, most likely the upper or lower edges will be light, and the other side not as bright. Keep it up and post the full picture rough for a better idea. _________________ "I'm not a shrimp, I'm a KING PRAWN !" -- Pepe.

Well, you definitely got me thinking... Unfortunately I don't have a real answer yet.
I think (unless there's some specific suggestion otherwise) that I'm done blocking in the forms. The left arm that I eliminated in the most recent iteration is going to be slightly less tightly bent, and the knife angle will probably take some work to get right, but all the major forms are in. As far as lighting goes - I'm afraid I've been faking it far more than I should be. What I'm trying for is a strong light behind the figures - which should explain how dark I've made the foreground - however I agree that the strong highlights, expecially those below the horizon line, need work. Probably tone them down to reflected light or eliminate them - suggestions there would be great.
Most recent (I took a day off 'cause I needed a break from this image):

Very minor progress:
and, of course, I've managed to get to the point where I'm amazingly unispired to do anything more to it, despite it being clearly unfinished.
This.. burnout, I guess is the best word, though I haven't worked on it for a while now, is that main thing I think I need to work on. Anyone have any suggestions? |
