dylancole: love all the orange and pink colors and the perspective you created in the second one. wonderful!
NeFF: hey thanks. Your green guy looks a bit stiff. why not try something more dynamic?
allpetter: thx. I don't recall you style though ... 5min sounds pretty good.
ELLioT: very nice. like the mural style in it. very graphic.
zhalimuto: very moody.
Novacaptain: beware, more similarity coming up. love your first one, btw! very graphic and simple, yet beautifully renderd. very much like childrensbook illustration, I guess. me likes.
sparth: I already said it: I love pretty much everything about your style. I envy you for your sense of light and values. really nice one.

I HATE PAINTER IX ! THE NEW OIL PAINTS MAKE ME LIKE A HANDICAPPED DISABLED MORON !! Its a horrible pain to paint with it ! I want to kill myself
started this sketch to paint in, but i gave up as my nerves went nuts.
How can anyone paint with the brushes always running of paint, no matter what i try i end up with all the little dabs, out of my control. The other way colors become dirty very quick. I just cant control it godamn
Any advice how to handle the oil system of painter IX ?
Spooge say something plz

Inspired by jibe (where is he by the way?)
Watmough, keeping it up aye aye, sir!
ExonGep, hehe i have no idea what really defines my 'style'. whatever it is, i'm glad you like it.
ignio it looks like you build the forms out from the darkness with light...i wonder how it would work for a non-frontal lightsource. nice work
Sparth. That's great! I like the contrast in it. (by the way go and tell frost to paint something too ;D)
Max, thanks! i'm rather happy with that particular one _________________ It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice - Scooter |

ax-hv -- the glow you were trying to achieve in the last one worked well. . . .you should finish that one. . . .you got off to a great start.
longyvde -- i like the tears and multiple tones. . . . im just a little confused why you chose that colour for the background. You dont even need to go for extra detail, just make it dark and ever error will be hidden. Gotta love colour theory
Spooge -- In your paintings, do you invent your own colours? My teacher keeps telling me to replicate my reference exactly how it looks on the image and I cant agree with that because it looks to me that you create colors and end up with something that looks 10x better than the photo. Should i stick with eye-ing the colors or invent as I go along?
ok, another red face. This time the mouth is there, just no eyes

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.
Roma-no tutorials any time soon, I don't have the time. I will be in one of those ballistic d'artiste books next year, though. I will talk a lot about matte painting.
Capt.Fred- Sometimes to get the correct vertical perspective I will paint it perfectly verical and then keystone it so that the vertical lines converge properly. All of the other stuff is just painted normally.
Here is one thaat I spent 2 hours on, not sure if that qualifies as a speedpaint. I started over a normal sunny sky photo.

Dylan, Roma, allpeter, combustion novacaptain, Xia, thanks!!
Starglider2, it works at high rez better, custom palettes are back (but without adequate previews!) brush creator function is not hidden anymore, yes, the artrage like oils are neat too. Bunch of other stuff too, cant remember now. But mostly it is much faster, can work at reasonable rez.
As far as your troubles using it, yeah it can be a pain. You just have to spend time playing with all the sliders and go about it in an organized way. Isolate the variable to see what they do. A lot of them seem to do nothing, but that's just me probably. I think the oils running out of paint is adjusted with the viscosity setting.
Combustion, thats a tough question. Your teacher might be saying stick to the ref exactly as a learning aid, not as the right way to make Art. Color is not arbitrary, but it can be bent a really long way. Actually it can be entirely arbitrary and still read fine. Just get the values correct, and you are mostly there. But in general, shadow dominance is opposite the light dominance, (cool light warm shadows) ambient light picks up the color of the object it is reflecting off of. Try using warm and cool grays at first, and work more color in as you learn more. The local color of an object is modified by the lighting and the environment. And the decisions of the artist:)
Capn fred I like girls a lot. The world is much better because they are in it. And it's even better when they have swords! |
