Edited in on a later date 10/06/04 -->I apologize to all of those who are at this thread, I asked for feedback but it was too difficult for one person, thus this thread turned itself into one that does not really belong in the "Work in Progress" section. Please leave feedback for the image I will check it periodically.
I wouldn't mind some pointers.. I am a newbie to this type of imagery.
thanks for viewing! _________________

Not an expert on light myself but the left eye is covered by a shadow but it is still as bright as the right one and it reflects some kind of lightsource. Also I think you need to work more on the hand, more details and less blur since it's such a big part of the picture.
I like the characterdesign though |

Well, one could argue that you were inconsiderate first by posting in a colour that was painful to read... Just making an observation.
At least it hurts my eyes... Overall, colouring a whole message for no reason isn't very classy unless it's an unobtrusive change... This is not an example of such an unobtrusive change. Yes, I know yellow is a little easier to read than red is, I'm just trying to make a point. _________________ My art: www.jobocomic.net/art

XZACTO,
The yellow works very well with the cool gray background.
I like it very much.
It's also a nice way to keep track of where all your posts are
in the thread.
But what I CAN"T STAND is all that yellow in the hand and in the eyes.
TAKE IT OUT! Take it OUT NOW!!!
I HATE it. Make it go AWAY!!!
Or I'll kick the slats out of my crib and hold my breath untill I turn blue...
then you'll be sorry! I demand my own way NOW!!!
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... |

Ok, it's not the best paintover, and I'm not sure which style you're going for, so just look at it as my version.
I think the first one looks better, and I like the slimy skin (ruined that on my pic..) I cropped the tree, since it didn't add much to the pic, imo, and I tried to define the shapes a bit more. His left ear seems to be too visible, and the lines on the hand have a random feeling about them, not adding much to the hand.
Err.. If you like discussing the text color, why not start a thread about it at the appropriate place? |

Misc, thankyou for posting your feedback. and for the record I was just proclaiming my disapproval for the inconsiderate act from "Glitterbug" telling me to change my text color when i clearly asked for feedback on my image.
(to quote stacy) "The yellow works very well with the cool gray background.
I like it very much.
It's also a nice way to keep track of where all your posts are
in the thread."
THANKYOU that's EXACTLY why I did it. THE LEAST Glitterbug could have done was post feedback and politely ask me in the same reply to change my color.. how hard is it to go back and press the edit button to change the color of my own posts? not very. I appologize for starting this pointless debate about text in a forum but needless to say I had to point the finger on that one. I am sorry.
stacy - thankyou for that energetic display of enthusiasm for the obvious future changes I guess I MUST make I will make them considering all of your awesome feedback thankyou very much. I will simply edit this post with my updated image. you guys rock.
oops.. ok I am an idiot and overwrote one of my old ones.. so this one and the second one down are the same

You see xzacto, I actually typed up a quite big amount of feedback regarding your image, trying to be nice and helpful. That was when my memory kicked in and I remembered past posts of people that use big image banners even though the guidelines tell you to limit its size, people that use colored font to get attention and so on. I also remembered their reactions and how they used to act. That was when I decided to just put in that one "inconsiderate" line instead.
What I got out of it? I got your reply telling me what a bad person I am, for pointing out something that is pretty obvious to most people, which is the reason why they dont do it. Just like people dont write their whole post in caps, except for certain reasons, which do tell alot about the peoples character...and let me tell you its nothing good.
So in the end you brought me the proof for what I expected. In my opinion a better reply would have been: "Sorry, I use the yellow to keep track of my posts, but if its disturbing Ill stop it in the future. But how about some feedback on my image, I would really appreciate that".
Instead of telling me what I AT LEAST couldve done, you couldve been as polite as you demanded me to be in your reply ( "...and politely ask me...") and I wouldve gladly written up and excuse for me being so harsh and feedback and put you in the "nice people" folder in my head. But for now youre in another one, and I prefer to help people I like, not ones that put me in the bad corner for pointing out what everybody with some common forum sense here probably thinks anyways.
Why I reply again with something that is not feedback for your image? Not to flame you in a polite way, but to say some things that I think need to be said for everyone to read instead of a pm. This might not improve your drawing skills, but maybe it improves your and others ability to make this forum a better place. At least that is what I hope.
P.S.: Oh and btw, you spelled my name wrong, which is in my opinion a sign of utter disrespect. |

well, there are 2 people who posted who were in favor of my reasons using the yellow text. which in this case debunks your false information
"...not ones that put me in the bad corner for pointing out what everybody with some common forum sense here probably thinks anyways."
so either you are flat out wrong about your "forum senses" or you are indirectly calling the other 3 people who are posted in this forum, idiots.
but that's only if you want to talk disrespect, Glitterbug, cute name.
Please stop posting in my thread, if my text color bugs you that much let me be the first to tell you that you have the problem, not me. You simply didn't take 2 seconds to realize why i was using the yellow text (which, again, I am not the only person in favor of it in this particular case.) instead you UTTERLY IGNORED my thread and all it stood for to digitally repremand me for something i did for the good of others.
You don't need to reply to this, in fact i would rather you don't if you have a problem with me or my posts. talk to me through PM or an admin. Go find another thread to pick apart and ruin as you have done to mine. _________________

I dont call 3 people idiots xzacto, I wonder where you see the 2 people favoring your use of color...
Dont be affraid though, I wont reply in your thread anymore, I think it showed what ignorant, inconsiderate fool I am enough already. But what can I say, I dont like the secrecy of PMs, rather I want everyone to see the inconsiderate things I say. |

Xzacto, I don't think the designers of this forum would have included yellow as an option if it weren't meant to be used, would they? They certainly would not have if it were a CARDINAL SIN or even considered impolite.
What cheeses me personally (I'm sure everyone wants to know) is topics that have no IMAGES in them! [sigh] |
