Heyo. Well a while ago I posted an earlier version of this at conceptart.org, though I updated it a bit. It would be pointless to repost it at conceptart.org, so instead I just posted it here. Ergo: you guys get the newest and most refined art from me Wink

The wings of the angel were an artistic experiment. I am inspired by falcoon on some levels. Feedback on this is more than welcome.
Thank you

wow dude that looks like the retro technique!

tho somehow i had hard understanding it was wings, somehow they look like 2 guardian dolphins/whales grabbing her with their fins. maybe you should look at swans and how they have their wings sometimes (sort of like a bowl) I dunno hehe, other than that, looks great!

Razz

I don't know who falcoon is but the level of inspiration used here is suspicious. She's got a near perfect face and a graceful figure but strange pretzel-like ears and her boots are shaded in two different styles.

wings are made up of feathers of different sizes. They're not all like the ones you find inside a pillow.

Thank you all for the feedback and questions that you have raised. I will try and elaborate on your thoughts:

Capt.FlushGarden: Thank you for your encouraging words. I do agree that the wings can/will confuse the viewer, though they were an experiment.

Isric: I think that it is brave of you to question the image, and I like the thought of enforcing originality in style.
There are some factors that you must put in mind before generalizing my style. You have probably only seen this image from me and therefore you cannot judge my style. I did not say that I was constantly inspired by
falcoon.
I do not think that it was wrong of me to take inspiration from falcoon, since this image has no purpose of being used for commercial gain and therefore is completely free and therefore not breaking any rules of copyright.
If there is a rule or norm at this forum that states something about the requirement of originality when it comes to style, then I am sorry for posting this.
Please do not let this be a debate about originality, and please do not be mean :/

Highfive: Well the image does vary in style. Good observation. I am used to making pixel art and therefore parts of the image have been made with a 1x1 brush, where others have not. I also used the blur tool. Below i have posted some other images, that are pixel images. They state the structure of pixel art:
KOF inspired... oh OH Wink... Moving on:
I agree that the ear seems out of place and i will correct that. Thank you for your comment.

Novacaptain: If you are speaking about perspective, then you are absolutely right. If not could you rephrase?
One note on the wings: They were not supposed to be clich. This is probably hard to see with all the falcoon "thieving" going on Rolling Eyes

EDIT: http://falcoon.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ <- Falcoons website. It might be of relevance to understanding the level of inspiration, though hopefully not an encouragement to a debate about the ethics of inspiration. Thank you.

What i mean is examplified in the following image.

Here you can clearly see that some feathers are larger (the primary and secondary flights are longer than the primary and secondary coverts). You couldn't possibly put all the small feathers together like that because there would be nothing for them to grow out of.

Think of a feather like a hair...you can't have hair down to your waist if your hair isn't made up of LONG hair because, just like feathers (that don't grow out of other feathers), hair doesn't grow out of hair (it comes out of your skin).

What i'm saying is: every feather actually has to reach some piece of skin to stay attached. The actual limb (where the skin is) is just like a little arm (see supermarket chicken or KFC fastfood menu for reference).

In conclusion, Short downy feathers don't appear on the tip of the wings, wings are composed by feathers of different sizes and shapes and birds shouldn't have their wings clipped and be allowed to fly free Razz

It's good you don't make regular practice of using other people's styles. My only real problem is that when you post it on the internet you're publishing it (not for any profit, but still) it's out there with your name on it. If that's the case, i'd imagine you'd want to build your reputation on your own work, rather than on someone else's.

so in the end it's not about money at all, it's about your identity as an illustrator.
