hehe, thats pretty cool. Very Mon of you!
I also love mon's work. It looks so complex, yet his tutorials make it a hell of a lot simpler to achieve. Not that I've attempted his tutes jsut yet. But I want to give them all a go. The style is very cool. |

hey! "homage to mon"?! outrageous!
I like how you've worked with separating the back, middle, and foreground in this one, but as you say, it still doesn't read as well as it could... I would like to see you take another go at this scene, using this first version as a base (not a sketch). The next one will be easier to make, promise =)
Try to make use of your diagonals in some way, and work at connecting your lights and darks a little better (without losing the drawing).
The scene with the three aliens facing us is strong, maybe a closer shot at them?
just some ideas, use what you can and ignore the rest ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ www.mattiassnygg.com

The real mark, thanks
Mon, thanks for replying, I appreciate the tips, but I don't know if I can really respond well to them, I don't think I understand the underlying stuff well enough to deal with connecting lights and darks better as you mentioned but next time i find the time, I would like to try. Even if I don't understand the sort of tonal-composition stuff outright, I think I'd still like to give it a bash in an intuitive way Thanks man/mon.

Hey Fred, I think you have a quite nice concept going on here. It's the mood of the scene which inspired me to try a paintover.
First off, I am not even half as good as you so don't take my advice too serious.
As Mon always says: take what you need and ignore what doesn't make any sense at all!!
Okay, I mainly tried to work on the composition taking Mon's advice.
Not sure what he meant with "make use of your diagonals in some way"..
I tried to create a line with the left/right UFO, the alien soldiers and the weapon (at least I interpretated it in this way, like in a shooter).
The rest was just adding some elements lights and shadows here and there.
As you see I don't really know what rocks look like eighter
Finally I gave the scene more texture, sharpened some areas, added some glow here and there and...well, that's it.
I hope that helps you somehow, if not I had atleast some practise for myself. hehe
Keep up the good work!!
