I'm spamming the message boards with my crap here, this is cut and pasted from CA...

This first one I did for a Vampire book by White Wolf. Only three hours from start to finish, it's probably a personal speed record for a piece like this:

This one was for a book by Mythic Dreams Studios.

These next two were never published, and never paid for... They remain personal favourites of my b&w work, even though they'er well over a year old now.

A few months back I was asked to help develop a new IP for Decipher, a trading card game based on the Starwars TCG game mechanics. I did lots and lots of images for this project, both card illustrations and concept art. The team they assembled for this production is just amazing (including some very distinguished CA members), and I have no doubt this game will be around for a good long while. It's called WARS TCG, it's sci-fi, and i got to draw lots of aliens Smile

First some card art:

Here are a couple of other cards, and how they'll look in print (click them for a larger picture):

Aaaaand some concepts (first one based on a sketch by John Howe)

These next two were ideas for the game poster. They went a totally different way with that one Smile

I'm probably forgetting something... Oh well, hope you've enjoyed these as much as I enjoyed making them. Take care everyone,

- m

Those are great Mon.
I actually read the Vampire: The Requiem book and saw a bunch of illustrations made by you, great stuff, really moody.

Wow, mon. Last time I went yo your site it was different (harder to browse). I went though all your stuff just now. the black and whites especially, I seemed to learn something from them, shit they way you work and you use black and white and midtones is just so clever, you seem to have mastful control of those aspects, not just in light and showing form etc but in leading the eye, establishing what's the focus what's the background etc. I feel like a latecomer in saying this, having only just begun to grasp how you work it, but only when I saw a lot of your work at once did I begin to see how things worked, and I was amazed at how direct you methods are. just struck me as being fantastically cool, and clever.

Just found new love in your paintsings, that's all Smile

(Is there a larger version of Ivan The Gongen Agent from the card?)

hej mon, I wish i had something constructive to say about your technique and designs but it all seems so well covered. I really wanted to be helpful too. Razz

The last few images remind me a lot of the armor used for sauron in LOTR, I'm not sure if it is armor in this case or an exoskeleton. In any case, maybe it could look more organic? The spikes on the chin might look more menacing/useful if they pointed more forward than down?

Perhaps you could try stahlberg's approach to coloring some of these grayscaled beauties Wink

DangerousLlama - thanks

Greensun - Shocked

Ragnarok - Cool! I haven't seen the book(s) myself yet, I was supposed to get my copies two weeks ago Sad But its great that you liked them!

allpetter - that's one of the few pieces that "painted iself"... I just sat back and watched what happened on the screen Smile wish all of them came out as easily

B0b - they're usually a day each, but i like to sleep on it before I make any finishing touches. Some took longer because I had to compositional sketches and none were working, but as soon as i found an idea with a bit of rock n roll in it then it took a day.

Capt. Fred - that's wonderful man, glad to have been of some use! Here's that image (click for larger view)

It's actually a portrait of Kieran Yanner who also worked on this project. He didn't know I was making it, it was a little prank between the AD and me Smile Kieran liked it tho and thought that I had made him look cool.

watmough, Fiend, kimchi - Thanks a lot guys!

Novacaptain - Hahah yeah it does look a lot like lotr, doesn't it? Smile It's John Howe's designs to start with so I guess he had some trouble shaking off his lotr universe. Some of these designs were changed later into the project (when my stuff was more or less finished), and I supposed they addressed some of these issues. I know the jaw was changed...

I have tried to color some b&w pieces before, but I don't know how to made it look any good =) The color ends up on top of everything in a very unforgiving manner. Maybe one day i'll get the hang of it!

As I've mentioned before, you've got an amazing grasp on tone, and it seems you color work is catching up. Really gorgeous stuff.
