This is the stuff I normally do. Its a mixture of 3D and 2D. The figure is usually 3D, while I paint the scenery and/or props in. I was just wondering what others who mostly just paint think of it.

It's cool. Just go more crazy with it. Take advantage of both mediums.
Have you heard of Masamune Shirow? This guy is ridiculous when it comes to the 2d and 3d mix(imho).
I'm sorry I don't have links...but check his shit out...I have a couple of his
books, Ballistics (Intron Depot 3) and some other ish in the closet.
But, like I said...just get more crazy with it. |

Nice job integrating the 2D and 3D. Looks natural.
I've started using 3D more for backgrounds and scenery, but I paint all of my figures from scratch. I've had a lot of trouble with perspective since switching to digital, and the 3D bit helps with that.
reakshun, I actually liked Shirow better when he was using less 3D work. Intron Depot 3 (Ballistics) has a lot of work that's technically great, but it's like he's lost any sense of composition since he started doing more 3d. I think he gives in to the temptation to just make a million copies of things and throw them around on the screen... In his recent works I like all of theparts, but they don't fit together that well to my eye. Too busy, too cluttered.
The man can flat-out design guns though _________________ I may be wrong, but I'm never in doubt. |
