Elliot, I guess it's more of a speed-drawing than a speed-painting. It went quite quickly because it is really quite small (around 4" x 7", at a guess.)

I think this is the best the speed painting thread has been for at least a hundred pages! The quality level just suddenly bumpled up a notch. It's great to see all the reference painting. I can smell the learning! Now i have to go paint from reference too so i can learn

hi
long time no post.
copy after frederic remington. made the mistake to start loosely on an inprecise drawing because the original looked loose. Well, it's a lot tighter than mine. At least i know it, now.
hi Boz, nice to penguin you here Smile

That's a nice Remington copy, beat. Looks almost IR nightvision-ish, but not in a bad way.

balistic : Remington did a whole serie of night paintings in a similarish kind of way... Mostly earth tones, though...

Started that one as a copy of Whistler, quickly found out I fucked up the fondations of the piece, so I just went loose and took many liberties with the reference ( like changing her whole face Sad it's ok, it's leisure time ) . Blame me for the mistakes...

No reference. Drawing was about 45 minutes, and color was another 45 minutes. I'm getting better at seeing where greens, blues, and violets are suppose to be on figures.

thought I'd do one from reference. I should've done something more exciting with it, all I did was a copy, and it wasn't very interesting, don't think I learned anything.

2 hours from this.
Jpeg changed my colours :(

Neff: great style, Its got that ballpoint look.

Hmm dont know about this one. I have trouble getting the contrasts to work at all. The more I look at it, the more it seems like a big grey mess. Its a hommage to the stikfas mechana robot. Ever since Robocop I seem to have something with big bots and them being carefull on stairs.

Thanks watmough, you have been busy lately

Ceenda, Sometimes I see it beforehand, sometimes I work and flip and squint and nothing. I have tried every method you can think of. The arab market scribble started as a figure silhouette, then I put a cropped part of an old charcoal drawing on top, then it suggested something, and then it told me what to do from there.

Allpetter, you forgot the lens flare. Yuck.

Wigin, I will post my thoughts over in discussion on the book thing

Boz, beautiful drawings! About other thought, sometimes it makes me not want to be me. Very mixed feelings

Socar, have you ever seen Arthur Rackhams drawings? I think you would like them.

Beat those Remingtons are nice arent they? He did a whole lot of them later in his career. If I remember correctly he saw the French dabblers of the time and was bowled over. I just got a book with good repros of Whistler, and my opinion has changed quite a bit in seeing good prints. I had the same feelings about Rockwell. It is sad how much good art we will never see, and the stuff that we do see has probably been poorly reproduced. Off to the museum.

Capn fred, simplify that girl!

llama, Oahu is getting all our rain. We are dying here and you guys are swimming.

This is a sketch for a halo 2 illo. The resulting image made my head hurt. But I did a second image that turned out OK.
