Meanwhile, Photopaint's development staff sits patiently in their unfinished basement office, throwing darts at Painter cans and getting high on white-out. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Seems like the old horse youre riding will soon die, balistic.
Ive not used painter(or slimmed down versions) since I quit using dabbler which was bundled with my first wacom art pad. I always think I should give it a shot, but then I just start pshop and draw in there. |

Yes artist's oils brush sets are almost like Artrage on acid!
but the thing is most of them are pretty similar. it's kind of a pain to select the brush you want from the huge pile.
but then again that's prolly customizable. |

Come on Skull, with the Brush Tracker, plus custom keys, plus mouse's right button, you can choose *ANY* brush at any time... _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

You can also create custom palette with your favorite brushes by dragin` one of them a little to the middle. "For more information please refer to the manual" _________________ "With a palmful of stars I shake them like dice and throw them on the table.

quick question - how do you preserve the transparency of the painter layers when copying them and pasting them back and forth in photoshop? |

Providing you don't need to retain any Painter specific information, save the file in PSD format, open it in Photoshop, save it again in PSD format, then open it again in Painter... and so on.
If you do need to retain Painter specific information, first save the file in Painter's native RIFF format, then save it in PSD format.

Painter specific information could be a lot of things that Photoshop won't understand. For instance,
Certain Composite Methods aren't available in Photoshop.
Water Color Layers will be converted to regular Layers in Photoshop and open in Painter as Default Layers.
Liquid Ink Layers will be converted to regular Layers in Photoshop and open in Painter as Default Layers, no longer dynamic, meaning you won't be able to adjust the Amount and Threshold sliders to make the Liquid Ink paint thicker or thinner or the brushstrokes more or less dense.
Digital Water Color will be dried in Photoshop and when the file is opened in Painter, it will still be dry and there's no way to make it wet again to continue working with what should have been wet paint.
Dynamic Plugin Layers will be converted to regular Layers in Photoshop and open in Painter as Default Layers, no longer dynamic but fixed as they were when you saved the PSD file. They can no longer be adjusted, in other words.
Unless you save the file having taken some precautionary steps, you may loose even the appearance of Impasto Depth and Lighting on any Impasto painting and once that's done, it's lost for good. The Impasto paint is flat, not thick as it should be.
Text will no longer be editable as it will be converted to Default Layers.
Shapes will no longer be editable as they'll be converted to Default Layers.
Probably more I can't think of right now, but that's enough.

If I install Painter 9 now, and then get a new computer in a month or two, can I move it? Should I hold off on upgrading to 9 until I get my new machine.
Anyone know the policy? |
