I accidentally cut off the right stone fist, but you get the picture. Besides the fact that his left arm missed his sleeve (a glaring oversight that I will correct digitally) is there anything major I should look at before attempting to paint it? I think the primary light source is fairly obvious, so working from the left hand (and radiating directly upwards to an extent, eventually), how do you feel about the general shading? I tried to capture a bit of motion- the idea is that the left shoulder has been flung back in the act of generating whatever he's gathering in his left. The right shoulder is supposed to be drawn back as well, with the torso flared out. Can you recommend any alterations that might more effectively convey these motions?

Also, do any of you know of any decent painting tutorials for beginners? I can't actually paint for crap as of yet.

Thanks in advance.

No I don't!

You should think more about the anatomy.
Ever heard the word "sixpack"?

This guy seems to go with "eightpack"! Wink

The composition is rather dull too.
(why is he holding a stone?)

draw, draw draw!

Hmm, All true. So it's slightly... fundamentally flawed, then Twisted Evil . Perhaps rather than using it as a map for a painting, I'll consider it inspiration for my practice painting. Thanks for taking the time to decnstruct it though.

I did a quick operation to re-align his spine, raise his belly and the arms. Thanks again for taking the time to provide that insight, which in retrospect, I should have seen if I had taken the time to flip horizontally and stand back for a bit.

Meh...

I wish I had more time... Evil or Very Mad

edit:...Found some more time, resulting in the third face on the left. I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with the idea of painting, as opposed to the traditional safety of dodge and burn.

edit2: Well, I'm tired of looking at the face, so I'll move on for now. Any recommendations on facial structure with respect to realism (especially in relation to the scarring) would be greatly appreciated.

Edit3: whole project scrapped while I (idealy) generate some skill .
