Mikko-
"You always keep talking about the "drawing" and not surface/painting tricks so I'm wondering why you decided to go back to this old sketch and not start over with a so called better drawing? Is it just the cleaning up and noodling part you despise?"

Reworking that image has a lot of reasons behind it. I am trying to get some images that will be printed for different markets, one of which has nothing to do with pirates and skulls and blood, so that image is saccharin enough to fit. I need the rez of a real painting to print well, so I did a WC of it resting the paints on the keyboard.

As far as drawing, I am not sure I know what you are getting at. The longer I do art the thing I think is most important is drawing. (please do not think that means lines!). And what is good drawing can be as subjective as anything else. I like the Iboshi image, from a drawing standpoint. It says what I want it to say, at least for the use I have for it. Or rather I should say that at my sorry state of development, it is the best I can do, so I have to run with it.

Not sure if I answered your question.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that answered my question.

I was just curious why that Iboshi remake thing, not very usual from you. For printing it makes a lot more sense.

You seem to do so much similar subjects but with different approach (dune barons etc.) so if it were only for exercise it would be strange to remake a painting with almost identical result (I thought the original was good too).

Okay this a bad joke, Ryan Church dvd is already disturbing me to clone him.

thanks again guys.

U know I have been called hay-market artist by some of the teachers because I tend to reach for realism in me oil-paintings, and, for them that is like a foul language. Just stupid that they neglect the old teaching, now I have to learn Rembrandt's stuff for myself.

Here's a 5 minute water-color doodle from life to show u guys how much I suck, sniff.
keep it up everyone.

goodness people, its been several pages and you guys are so good.

Gecko-great
spooge- Shocked your people are wonderful, the gruff type face inspired me to do the little doodle below.

ive realized im lacking in variation of color but i guess thats not important compared to other things. I should probably slop the background with alot of different colors before going at it now that i look at it. Confused

Got some darks in her body that would be like getting choclate out of choclate milk to get out. oh well

Llama, there is continuing education life drawing at Maui CC, but it is expensive and I shudder to think of what they might be teaching. I might try it though. Not heard of Mark Brown.

Matthew, you have some nice teachers, eh? Only draw comic characters with lotsa blood and throw in some T&A wherever possible when you work for them. Then come back at them about how lonely is the dissenting voice, or something. Or take the lead from Mr. Nedrum, paint a Rembrandt, but with a straining erection. Then everyone is happy.

Spooge, Lol yea T&A, my partner in crime who did leave the school
this term did a lot of those T&A drawings and one of the study leaders
categorized him in Puberty art. Dang we were laughing about it
afterwards and the Study leader also said he could do better anatomy
than our puberty drawings.

So, this period is for about 9 weeks so there are 7 weeks to go with
this teacher I am having now who calls me hay-market
painter. He gives me a comment at the end of every class and it
seems that he is avoiding giving me a comment , not sure why but maybe becuase of the hay-market thing, all the other students are been given praise and comments.
But u see, this is a thing that I don't like. He is like seducing the students
and giving them these big conversations and analyzes when someone has been doing some weird shaped pieces and or had just blobbed on some red all over the canvas.
My color theory teacher is on my side though so it isn't all that bad and I will have him for the next period in school, already looking forward
to his classes, he is really a god with color. He can mix oils quicker than what I can mix colors in photoshop hehe.

Sorry for my long rambling here, nice mood in your latest there Spooge.

Tryin out something else, lots of butterflies in this piece. Smile

keep it up guys

great stuff everyone (as always)
a lot of people here are improving tremedously with every painting they make.
random future soldier with gasmask in a post-acopolypse city... (original huh?)

haven't done that much painting recently, and not alot of posting here for the same reason, instead, I've been busy filling sketchbooks. I think I've learned atleast something by doing so.

Sparth that's awesome! Light and color!

Ryanpaul: Thanks man. Yeah talk about a heat wave! Perfect timing for a three day weekend; I don't think I could've accomplished anything if I tried. You in the Bay Area?

First pass, practicing composition:

Hopefully I'll get a chance to finish it tonight. Smile
