here's one I did while I was still in Detroit, the plants in my window on an early summer evening. marker on marker paper with the car designer's nasty habit of dabbing white guache:
original size 10.5"x10.5"
>Tedsuo: man, I dig your top sketch. You're in SF? Been cooking the last couple days? My computer actually overheated and shut down twice in the last week. Sure has me saving work more often. First actual heat I've experienced in town.
>watmough-- I really really like your telephone wire sketch. A LOT. Only crit would be the warm brush you used over the texture (from a painting?), I think it's either too high opacity or just unnecessary. Maybe a weird brush shape would have helped. But damn, small crits on a gorgeous sketch.
>ax--hv-- on fire, man. Yarr, that piratey sketch is really nice.
>idiran-- speaking of yarr, that last one is very nicely lit. 'Arr, glad our precious cargo is safe.' 'The hot pants, sir?' 'Aye, the hot pants.'
>matthew-- that last one digital? Very nice.
Keep crankin, y'all. This place is amazing.

Spooge> About the Iboshi one. I think the face got better and the values on the coat as well.
You always keep talking about the "drawing" and not surface/painting tricks so I'm wondering why you decided to go back to this old sketch and not start over with a so called better drawing? Is it just the cleaning up and noodling part you despise? |

That looks great, Gecko! Impressive handling of light.
Isiric, it has a nice "propaganda-poster" quality to it

Awesome page so far guys!
watmough, nice oil painting!
Llama, the latest version of artrage I downloaded has a colour picker. Strange.
ax--hv, I love your water. The islands and boat image are just... *drool*. And thank you.
spooge, the whole concept of looking back at your old work and thinking about it as "terrible" from your new point of view seems like a common thing to do, but it's painful when YOU do it. "That was him 15 years ago? What monster has he evolved into?" Lovely lady and overexposed guy. And I sincerely HOPE that was positive feedback about your own work earlier, or I'll spontaneously combust.
Matthew, great linework and style, but I KNOW THAT FILTER! *chases with pickaxe*
iridan, great values!
retro, nice ultra spam.
This attempt (from ref, on top of it) was doomed from the very start, but I just had to poke around with it. Hopefully I learnt something from this frustration.
By the way, I try to do extensive life drawing and painting at least one image from one or more references on a daily basis. Has anyone else done the latter a lot, and been worried that it might gear you toward a more photographic look of your images, even when you work from your imagination? _________________ What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
