Hi,

I'm basically not an artist student but a Computer Science one so I'm not familiar with the course syllabus of a fine art student and my college doesn't have any. Can someone please give me an outline of what they teach in a fine art course cause I want to know what they teach first and next etc. etc. I want to know this so maybe I can use the outline to my own studies in art cause I have a feeling that my very slow progress is actually because I don't know what order should I study first. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

don't have my exact ccourse right now... second year pratt institute fine arts major right now... painting and drawing are both required, one kind of 3D (say ceramics, jewlery, welding/casting, plus one more kind of general abstract structures...), art history, creative writing/literature/film, and photography or print (the manual kind)...
i'd say if you really wanna cover yourself well, practice drawing and painting as much as possible. sculpture really helps too (ie. figure sculpting). read up on art history.. seriously, amazing stuff that can give you more insight into your own work. especially when you look at the major transitions and advancements.

from all i've experienced, the one thing i'm sure of is that art can be an avenue in itself... one discovery leads to another leads to another.. you learn to find your own solutions Smile

that's my perspective, at least... it's helped me really improve since last year!

Fine Arts is basically divided into a few main types of classes: Studio Classes, in the first few years it is mostly about just learning skills then in the advance classes theres a lot of critiquing of ideas and such. Lots of Art History classes which start off as broad views of the history of art and then you choose several specific periods of study such as Romanticism, late 20th century, Oriental etc. And then theres classes which teach you to talk about and write about art so you can be a snotty artsy kid who hangs out at derelict coffee shops.

heres the fine arts min. requirements for where I went to school at CCAD.
Its probably more than whats required at a state school or a non art school.
