Hello:)

I'm working on illustration for a childrens book and this is the opening image. Its supposed to have a welcoming atmosphere,
But I'm really stuck,because I feel I don't have enough debth, yet I'm trying to stay away from doing it too realistic.
I'd apprecciate any input on the image in general,really:)

Hi, Hannah, this is looking good. You've established the mood well. I think to make it a bit less flat and bit more welcoming you might want to add some more detail and sunlight in the foreground (maybe extend the road right up to the viewer's standpoint). Looks about mid-day here, so you might want to add some more intense highlights on the rooftops/trees. The mountains look great, but methinks they should be a bit more obscured by the atmosphere at this distance.

Hope you don't mind the overpaint.. it was a fun painting, I couldn't resist

Thank you! Your overpaint is great...you're very good with light and texture. I had to do the picture a bit darker..but I tried to put some of the elements from your version in it. Is it okay? I'm going to refine some things,like the grass in the front I think.

Hello, I got to say you've done a beautiful job on it. On the last picture I love how you put in bunnies instead of the cow, the lighting and little effects on it really brought abouts the warmth of the picture. Though I'm not really in the position to say anything I just like to add, its not to good put too much detail (such as the tree on the right middle of the canvas) into it or else it will lose its' child outdoor playground feeling to it.

I can't wait to see the final thing!

Actually, I rather like the original the best. It's more child-like. And I liked the cow too. Maybe reduce the rabbits and move them close to the cow. Frankly, they're both good... even the overpainting.

Sorry,but I can't seem to fit the cow in properly...and I need the rabbits as they add some debth.

And I agree that too much detail isn't good...but I tried to make it fit in more as thats more like the style I was aiming for.
