the only thing I really dislike is the 'fake face' of the soldier.. he has a really fake expression on his face, it bugs me.
also, that flag looks fake aswell.. too little folds, flags usually have a great deal of folds in them. _________________ Rabies up your bunghole |

cool concept, what greensun seems about right, the flag needs more folds. |

that guy is so going to get shot wearing the thing out in the open.
(note that the flag could touch the ground let out that far to the left. Not that the flag would care being a lefty)
You should have made it so he was wearing it as a turban, and shooting terrorists in the nads.
He should also be wearing glasses... everyone out in the desert wears them if they aren't using turbans. . _________________ http://kontinue.com/coldkodiak/ |

Not too bad..
I love the composition, and the idea.
hope you dont mind... but i did a quick paintover:
I pretty much agree with everyone here.
his face makes me wanna punch him. no offence
The eyes are what ruin his face.
so i took out the eyes... cause the helmet would be shading it anyways.
Also,
I think you need some more contrast in this image to unflatten it, and add some depth. I think it adds more emotion too with these darker more saturated colors.
ColdKodiak thought the flag should touch the ground. i agree... it looks more authentic and not so fake and static floating in that shape. It needs some life and fluidity.
i thought your shadow work was lacking in this image... the sun is bouncing off that sand... and by the sun, it looks like dusk... i thought the shadows would be heavier, and darker, with only small highlights to indicate shape.
anyways,
thats about all i gotta say.
good stuff,
hope i was of some help! _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |

I replied at CA already. I still think the footsteps look flat and a bit like textures.
And the top half totally does't work for me. The use of black kills it I guess.
And I don't like the smudgy brushstrokes over the mountains.
I love the lower half of the overpaint. Ground and flag look great painterly like that.
I think the soldier shouldn't be that dark though. Hard to recognize anything.
I like that in the original ... especially how the hands are simplified.
To make it work with the more flashy ground and flag they'd have to be more saturated though. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |
