Im afraid this left me more confused then it teached me. Could anyone please clear this up for me: does this mean there should only be one point in a picture with this "brightest bright" or does it mean there should only be one kind (color) of "brightest bright" in a picture? Confused Perhaps I should not even bother about that at the moment if I can not make that out by myself, but I want to understand...

HPhilX, that one was from ref, even if I generally avoid working that way now - I prefer life. stupid photo, forgotten, found it back in the basement, good souvenir, et voila, SP. 2 hours . too long. not in a single session. changed too much in the process, it was much more a drawing at first. overworked.

tu veux parler de Pascal j'imagine? ...ah, Paris, pitite ville. Sinon, pour le demi, no problemo Smile

antx, it means that all values are subordinates to one above-all brightest 'value', Not a single point in space. see these old portraits, dutch, velasquez, etc ? the "brightest bright" was often the white collar in these. Volume is read - or not - because of the proper arrangement of all other values "around" that one.
Spank me to death if I'm wroong, spooge.

rhum head
er, i fear i have a problem with the dark on my screen.

Hmm, from what henrik said, I thought it meant exactly that there's also some kind of focal point done with the darkest spot and the lightest one. Damn this is confusing.

Freebooter did the drawing, I just sh*tted on it.

hi guys n gals. Took some time to paint some in PS. Been really sick this weekend, wich sucks, but it atleast gave me some time to scope the internet for cool art Smile So much dedication to this thread by you guys. Really impressive. Matthew are you some kind of machine?? so much stuff coming out of you all of the time...
Spooge, been looking at your stuff alot lately, really enjoyed that last knight speedpaint you did, although the last one with the girl wasnt all too exiting, the face seems alittle too washed out perhaps...(cant just keep giving you praise now can i Wink .. You really have a thing for getting the lighting on all you pieces just right.

oh and ultrahsu: You reeeealy got that face thing down. tight! would be interesting to see perhaps some more enviroment stuff, or perhaps a male character?

anywhoo, heres the picture.

Mathew: wow. very great archer.

--

I've been reading a lot of books on color and value. I'm learning a lot but also learning that I have much more to learn. YOu all probaly know the feeling, where you think you are finally starting to understand something then you find out you are doing it all wrong. I don't know why photoshop dulled the colors down but imagine a vibrant sky and vibrant yellows. I wanted to just use one brush for this so I could focus more on getting the values right instead of making the image look detailed. About 2 and a half hours. Bye

Ultra -- Wow, crazy skin tones!! I have to learn to get such great smoothed pic like you have in everyone of yours.

Spooge -- Hey thanks for posting such a fast speed. Your giving me a much easier time studying your paintings. And keep the tips coming, I was just about to go into the style of over contrasting an image ( im trying everything but looks like I have a few methods to cross off)

This picture below was for a speedpainting contest(create scariest creature ever). I personally wouldn't call it a speed but you cant keep things short when you tape your wacom pen to your hand and just sit their and paint Wink I know my colors are all over the place (ill already slapped myslef for that) but I lost control.

thomas veil > thanks. nice pic btw. not sure i like the twisted frame, but i like the strong strokes and dynamics.
combustion, thanks
zhalimuto, i dig japanese movies too.
thanks malachi !
ultrashu, wow that last portrait is really awesome. i just wished you worked the hand as much as the face.
mitsui, nice work with the medium values. i can't get those right
stephan, thanks. love the last pic. side note : maybe the tiny strokes could add to the overall dynamic more. as it is, i read them as 'noise' more than 'details' or hatching. just a thought.
spooge > nice shit as usual. great words also. but you missed a point in your last pic so i did a quick paintover, hope you don't mind uh ?

(hmm i even fucked up the values...bad me)
pringle, your scens are very inspiring. keep them coming
beat, i really don't think it was overworked or too slow. very rough and full of energy. thanks for the insight on the process.
last pic looks good on my screen.
et sinon w, c'est pascal Smile je suis pass chez ubi pour un taf ventuel et on est arriv parler de wat. donc maintenant que je sais que t'es sens passer sur paname rgulierement, t'as plus d'excuses haha Smile
stewart, nice. very phallic also Smile the bottom part of the mountain looks too 'drawn', maybe work with light/shadows instead of contour to define the rocks
two-na, wtf was that suppoed to be ? an explosion ? whale pr0n ?

doodle inspired by bill s voodoo child.

beat: thanks for the reply, but, well, dare I say it? I still dont get it. If this is about value only, than there is anyway only one "brightest bright" possible. Perhaps things get mixed up here. With the "point in a picture" I did not mean "a point in space" but rather a shape or sureface in a picture (like the collar you mentioned). Its that it? Question

However, nice work everyone...

again one painted over a pencil sketch...
