This is a drawing of a giant rock monster under attack. An explosion is on the left back of the monster by the jets on the right.

I just wanted to seek for assistance before I go any further. It started as a rough sketch. So far, I have blocked in the shadows and put some colours where I think I want them to be later on.

Are the shadows in the right place? I light source is from the explosion, which will be brighter in the end. I originally planned the setting to be outdoor (i.e. the sand blown by the wind at the bottom). But then, that would be there has to be another light source from the sun. How would I make these 2 light sources work together? The sun would be from the back of the monster up really high in the sky.

Can I get some direction from here? What should I do next? Block in the lighted areas? I also thought about placing a tank REALLY upfront at the bottom. But then I thought that the focal point should be the monster, and having the tank in the very front would disturb it. Am I right?

Any suggestions or help are really welcome. Additional ideas to improve this drawing are also welcome.

It's difficult to make anything out. I really don't know what to suggest other than try to start out by copying images. Eventually you'll get a knack for light & shadows, hues and saturations; and when to use them properly.

The first one did not do too much for me. The second one looks like King Kong spitting something?
