Interesting Pencil Sketch you've got here.

It looks like you've put alot into the details like the hair and the crosshatched shading.

I think you're style is strong, you just need to focus on the actual anatomy of the head.

Ive done a little sketch-over to illustrate what I mean. Bare in mind that Ive never actually seen you in real life and that might be exactly the way your head looks. Smile

first of all it looks like the eyes nose and mouth are all on different perspective planes.

Also the Ear is really far back and a little too high. I really like how you rendered the eye, but it should be postioned farther forward.

Generally speaking, the Eyes should be 1/2 way between the top and bottom of the head, with the eyebrows above that. The tip of the nose should be 1/2 way between the eyes and the bottom of the chin and the mouth 1/2 way between the tip of the nose and the bottom of chin. Also the upper part of where the ear connects to the head should be on the same line as the eyes.

again, if my critisism is out of place I mean no offence. Keep working at it you are definitely on the right track.

A couple books that might help are Drawing the head and figure by Jack Hamm and get ahold of Sargeants figure drawing book. I cant find the link to it right now.. but If I find it Ill post it.
Also search these forums for figure drawing tutorials.

hope all this helps.

-Awe

As far as the eye's nose and mouth being on a different perspective plane ya kinda lost me, but the location of the eye and ear I totally agree. I always have anatomical problems like that, your sketch-over and critique is very helpful though. I'll look into those books and keep your suggestions in mind for next time. Thank you.

I've thought of a question I guess dealing with the anatomy of the head and your suggestions to help me...

Would that apply to different perspectives too? I've made a little sketch to show you what i mean (i have horrible control with a wacom but I think it gets the point across).

Also, I know the ear is too far back and too high, but can you give me an idea as to how far back the ear should be in general?
