What the...!!!
I just bumped into you in the "Jesus is Alive" thread.
I can't get DSL up here in the High Cascades and this is the second time you've soaked up my expensive dial-up bandwidth with junk.
You twiddled and fiddled with some colors and filters. The result was something you thought looked like a face.
Then in a dribble of inspiration you called it, "the face in my night mares" to (once again) try to make it mean something it's not.
Actually it looks more like a cross section through a human torso.
Please GO AWAY and STOP posting pedestrian, unimaginative tripe and trying to make out like it means something.
NeFF is right... it's NONsense. |

You don't have to be elite to know shit when you see it.
Yes there are many directions to go but blatent filter abuse is not one of them. Paint the 'face' from scratch, you will progress faster. |

stacy: no offence, but perhaps you should consider moving if 23 kB and 42 kB is so damn expencive to load up there in your mountains. Or simply remember his nickname and just dont click on his threads anymore.
ddawghurl: If you are wondering why you get so negative response here, then I'd say that is because the people here are used to actually painted work and drawings and also expect that somehow, along with some effort. With abstract work done with techniques like using filter effects you most likely wont get much out of this forum. Sorry...
However, It dosnt look like a face to me at all. Its indeed more like a cross section through a body part or so. The font on top definitely kills it. That's what I truly think. |

c'mon... u call urself digital artists. many artists make similar complaints just because we use computers, period! there's no such thing as cheating; the fact is a paintbrush is a paintbrush, a wacom pen a wacom pen, and a filter a filter. they're all different and none should be forsaken from creativity simply because of popular abuse/misconceptions.
ok, not trying to start anything.. but, rather than saying "dont do this," how bout some positive reinforcement people?

its just...filters are too simple to use and really everybody can do something with it in some minutes.it doesnt show anything of ones style, cuz the filters "style" is already pre defined. i think the core meaning of stacy is right. i just think the chosen words are not good. should have said it differently.
@ddawghurl try to draw pics wivout using any filter, then submit your stuff here and show us ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ quit pro quo |

would you look at these morose motherfuckers here, looks like someone shit in their cereal....... BONG, haha.
alright, from what i've read here, everyone on this forum thinks they are the freakin shit, and personally it's starting to piss me off. i've posted my drawings in the work in progress folder, but aparently, they were not good enough to even get feedback. i don't know if it's because i'm new at the forum, or because all you people are egotistical dicks, and i use that very bluntly.
you all think you are so good, and most of you probably are better than me, but i'm not about to bash someone who just started using photoshop, like myself, just because i don't like they're methods. i love art, mainly drawing, but the truth is, i'm not good enough on photoshop to do my own work without filters. you all need to chill out and get of the cardboard box your standing on that makes you feel better than everyone.
art is what you make it, and to me, working with filters right now is art. it's all i can do on photoshop. so, if i can make you people bitch and complain about this, than i feel so important.
ok, for those of you who've read this, i feel sorry, because it's all a bunch of bullshit. i love art, but it's not important enough to me that i have to make others feel bad if they're not as good as me. i looked for an art site that i could post stuff and get feedback and criticism, not a bunch of panty wearin geeks who think they are the best artists ever. so, i'll keep postin my stuff, and hopefully i'll get better, but if you all think i'm such a douche or whatever, don't read the topics with me as the starter and you won't be dissapointed. _________________

ddawghurl, you don't get any feedback unless you're good enough for people to spend time answering. Most of us aren't good enough, I included. Accept it and don't dwell in it. Read other posts (speedpaintings), learn from them and get better if you crave for praise. This is nothing personal and it hasn't anything to do with jealousy, you have no reason to cuss. Stacy were a bit overreacting, but you don't have to make your self look fool.
Just don't expect us to give you nothing more than our honest opinion. In my opinion your work is very unimpressing in any standards. Sorry. |

yeah, posting for praise is never the right way to go. I seriously suck at drawing but I managed to get some responses by not...blowing up like that. If you want to be able to draw well in photoshop you're going to need a graphics tablet. The best company is Wacom, and a decent tablet cost ~160$.
Just ignore responses that arn't helpful. When you ask for criticism you should prepare for the worst.
My biggest suggestion is to try a little excercise. Draw something on photoshop using only the paintbrush tool. No dodge, no burn, no filters. Just like real life, this is the best way to improve. Using filters is a bit like using stamps or stencils in real life. |

sorry for blowing up like that. i'm not normally a mean dude. it's just i wanted to post some of my new stuff to get feedback, and mabey i'm just a baby for not taking the criticism with a grain of salt. I'm not looking for praise, just feedback, and if i'm looking for that i should be able to take both the good and bad. so, i'm sorry if i've offended anyone, and i will try not to post crap, as some of you view it, in the future. so, again i'm sorry and i'll try and be more open minded when posting here. _________________

posting for praising = thinking that your the best artist.
All previous post had a truth in them. Some people where a little bit offensive but I'll guess you won't use the filters anymore. It'll take time before you create a little masterpiece in PS. But it'll B worth it. Just draw because you like it, because you need to, not because you want to B an artist. Hell, there R enough off them on this globe. Strolling from party to party with a have you seen me sign, Bah...
I also posted some things and never got any feedback. I eagerlly awaited some but, hey...What the heck at least I know some people saw my work. And I loved creating them. Wich I had more time. Now I come home from work, exhausted and creativilly drained...So I sit in front of TV, with zero-inspiration...Grrrrr....
And yes go look in the speedpainting section. You should B good for evenings to come. Create a inspiration-dir on your PC and save those heart-pumping-mind-blowing paintings. Just for inspiration, OKAy?...nothing else...
And btw. there is good art and very very sucky art...(F)art?

1)Ddawghurl. In your hands, filters are no good.
2)If you think filters are cheating, then you are being a snob.
3)If you want to know what filters can do (with lots of talent in the mix too), take a look at Greg Martin's stuff.

(check out the tutorials too)
