Please post your references, Combustion. I'm sorry if this offends you, but in my humble opinion, your recent posts seem like paintovers.

That's cool y'all are working on your drawing, when I first saw this site I was like damn, a lot of them can paint but don't care much for drawing, anyways, jibba jabba.

octavian - I like the painting inside the painting of the zombie

jibe - nice stuff, ur style's great, humorous site

pringle - walker garage is awesome

a.pipe - nice vehicles

spooge - amazing, holy crapage

Capt. Fred, stephan - nice

Swarm - cool stuff, very nice nude, screaming chick is great

dylancole - gorgeous landscape, the figure needs better drawing, think the neck's too thick

mitsui - like ur things in hell

here she is, #7, and yes I saw Jaws again recently, he is SnaggleTooth

Everything looks awesome as usual.
Swarm-I love your stuff. I wish your site were up and running.

Eeeh...second speedpaint. I can tell this is going to be a slow process. I just don't feel so comfortable with a tablet.

Spooge, hmm I think I am way to confused for my own good sometimes, so hard to know which parts to focus on in the painting but I like your explanation there, to get the structure right. I will work harder with it, at the moment I am searching for that simplifying though and it seems I can't focus on both drawing and simplifying, maybe comes with time.

btw very cool with swedish relatives, I thought I recognized that Swedish Dala Horse in your old Studio. Smile
Would be cool to see a pic from your new studio.

ok time for some breakfast

Howdy, I'm new here. I just came across this thread about a week and a half ago. But, I've seen the work of many of the artists that post here before. Spooge, Sparth, Baronteri, and many others are a huge influence on me wanting to get into digital painting. I wish that someday I can paint half as good as you guys. This thread is host to such a pool of creative people, that I figure that I have to take adavantage and participate.

So anyway, I'm new to digital painting. The image below is my third digital illustration. I've colored some character drawings in PS before, but as far as full illustrations go, this is the third....and its my first "speed paint." I would love to get some crits from you digital masters. I feel like I've got along to go, but I plan on doing a lot more digi-painting....so, any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ultrashu: Yeah I study Animation at the Academy of Art, and animate the veedeo games for the $$. Are you an alum? I wish I had a chance to take more illustration classes. As it is, I barely have time to skribble. Smile

Matthew,

I think something you should seriously consider is working on longer paintings for a while. Leave the speed painting thing for a couple months and just focus on some actual studies. That's why some people here have incredible speedpaintings and others just look like kids who 'wanna go fast', It's become too much of a gimick style. More study taking your time, then you'll come to understand how things work and it'll greatly improve the pieces you're trying to do now.

Isric, well u know I mostly see the speedy thing as an experiment trying out new tecniques. U should try it out.

here's another kid drawing, and hey I found a new brush.

Isric,

I understand what you mean though I don't agree with leaving the speed painting.

In my case, doing a speedy usually means 'no thinking involved' and that leads to crap. That's a bad habit for anyone, obviously. It seems that Matthew is like me, and has a hard time concentrating on one piece. In my case, I spend my workdays doing commercial stuff for games etc. that's heavily directed and often requires a certain polish. So speedies can also be a "I don't care what anyone thinks of this" kind of relaxation.. you shouldn't judge people 'cause their intentions might not be what you're looking for.

Spooge -- See spooge, this is the kind of stuff I get when I try to imitate your style. . . .CRAP!!!!! Embarassed

Zhuzhu -- seeing your latest work, I can tell you are getting MUCH better at simplifying your paintings. The hepburn paintings uses very few strokes and still brings her out very well. . . amazing! keep it coming, almost at 400!!

Illustr8r -- The last one did, I like a lot, it almost looks like a shot streight from a movie Cool

Mathew -- Im still trying to get up to your level, you sketch so fast and come out with something so representative.

A.Pipe -- Like the tones in the skin. Their so suttle but they work.

Bagelguillotine -- Wonderful yellow theme, you should have done a complete monochrome painting and still keep that splash of orange. . . .I have yet to do something like that Neutral

Ultrahsu -- Your paintings always come out SO SMOOTH with a great texture beneath, what application are you using?

Kimchi -- Offends me? Dude im just here to view some jaw dropping art and share some of my work to these wonderful artists. Im just so honored to be here Razz As you requested here is my reference. . . Im not to fond of bleached out colors. btw, what is the definition of an overpaint?

I loved this picture so much that I just had to find a reference like it and luckily I did. No, not steve davis, but close enough Wink (Thanks ax--hv Very Happy ) Was done all in photoshop maybe 30-40 min ago. I'm just having a hard time getting rid of the "fake" look of painting when doing it in photoshop. . . .but it sure as hell is less stresful.

mykoz : thanks, glad you like it. :)
mitsui : thanks, really like the devils. Nice brush in the bg, gotta get me one of those. :)
stephan : kickass

Ultrashu : It's nice to see such a fresh style popping up, hopefully it will give people a more varied inspiration/influence. great work so far.

did this as kind of a tut for a watching unalternate, though I screwed up alot so I wonder if he actually learned anything..
[edit: Oh, and on a sidenote it was done on his computer, which had eraserX brushes which I now feel I have to get my hands on as well. kudos X!]

Crab bungie!
Been away for a while. Doing my rainforest painting, I hope it gets finished soon. I have been doing speedpaintings too tho but they sucked ass so I didn't post for the past few weeks.

This one's my very first speedpainting without ref.

ultrashu Im loving your stuff. I wish i could have your colors.
mattew, nice stuff from you. I like knightstand. leaning to simplify is good but i think some parts of yor painting could use some definition.
dylancole, I really loved the cityscrape one!!
Spooge, when will I get there? Where you are!

Way too much to mention. Good luck everyone!

by the way, does anyone have a problem with me posting my pics as *.txt?
let me know
