man, I could really use some help. I feel like I'm never going to "get it".
anyway, this thread is simultaneously encouraging and damaging to my ego. your all so amazing.
Pringle, I like those colors. the birds are kick ass as well.
Mitsui, cool lonely robot.
Pud, nice one doot.
Henrik, Holy crap how do you do it? how do you get straight lines in photoshop (buildings etc)? I know the shift trick (however it only works for certain angles), but other than that, do you just use the line tool or marquee?
popeye, those are some creepy sketches.. .the one grabbing its boobs is wonderful!
Scottg, Your really improving fast!!! keep it up. |

Spooge, U might wanna know that I have seen a lot of progress in your work too during these 2 years that I have been a member in Sijun. I have always been impressed and inspired by you because u being a pro and all and you don't seem to be afraid to post your experiments and sometimes according to you bad sketches, most pro's don't do this, they just post their good sketches and call it a day.
Did you know that Carl Larsson also started to progress more when he focused on the drawing in his works? He used to have a more of a Skagen style (I think u remember I mentioned those Skagen painters) in his paintings and had a real hard time to get acknowledged but then he made those studys from his home and all of sudden everyone liked his work.
I remember I read about this around at the same time that u decided to focus on the drawing more, and, I believe this drawing thing is gonna get u where you want to go cause there was a lot of progress in those cowboy pictures u posted, even in the other works that followed them aswell.
I almost dropped my jaw when u posted that grass study some pages back, a lot of progress there u know and very well rendered grass.
allpetter, wow many thanks, u know that looks like a Stealth wing in yours.
I think I am starting to understand one or two things about texture now.

hey octavian.. those rich colors in the face are spot on.. good character... good character expression.. the red in the had is cool.. gives a velvet quality.. . the straight line in the BG is a little distracting. . I could see more yellow bieng used for the light in this. . _________________ ... |

Tiger 1313 -- Oh im sorry dude, I was mistaken. I saw you last pic and since it resembled the dick tracy I saw in max3d.pl, I thought it was from the same artist. I love them both but you are looking more toward the caroony side of things. Actually come to think of it, Ive always liked te cartoon style, love the hynrik and the two concept pilots.
Pictures make things more clear so here you go, this one was from tiger.
and this one was the one from the other forums.
Octavian -- ohh, i like how that pirate turned out. . . . very nice.
Mathew -- Youre last one is highly irregular to you usual style. What happened to the thick brush with the low Flow levels Anyway, im still digging this one, the small brush seems to like you as well. I noticed many of your more recent paintings look much more like a digital photograph of a canvas. . . . keep it up !! |

yah, this oldie
dick tracy's pic 2nd price and little-ninja's the guy I really love this piece of art of his.
Matthew, regarding the picture that allpetter overpainted, I think you used to many colors and contrast of its saturation. I remember that socar myles did nice tutorial where she written about using the color wheel and amount of color picking. I'll try to find it later. _________________ You must click here |

thanks guys.
tiger, yea I know, I am going for that negative shadow though but I think that one turned out too confusing. Would be great to see that tutorial, thanks.
hmm I think I liked the Nazghul riders better in that first movie, more mystic with the horses I believe. Maybe I should have used a horse too.

Thanks guys, hope you all had a good fourth. man, so much action here over the weekend, you guys are fiends!
Lunatique, that was a dope song list you posted on the other forum, what a nice present, hope he liked it, can I get a copy? oh, j/k.
Spooge, nice figure, I like the shapes and colors, skin tone is so fun to paint.
Octavian, I love sargent, if I can get my grubby hands on those detail shots, actually all your shots that'd be dope. Let me know. Did you go to his show in boston two years ago? I almost passed out it was so great...
Pringle, nice dude, nice.
HaRdC0rePixxX, that ish is ill.
Henrik, sweet!
ceenda, that oceanscape's cool, nice brushstrokes and colors.
Ralik, keep em coming.
tiger1313, nice bot
oi, there's too many. good work all.
and people, you should always credit your sources if you copy a painting...

*Didn't mean to sound ultra emo so I edited this post.*
Ultrashu : you can peep em out at http://www.sepatown.com/gal Btw, I like you work. When I look at what you do, I feel like you are really painting from your heart.... I wish I could do the same. Anyway I didn't get to see the Sargent show in Boston... wish I could have though. THis was my first time EVER seeing a Sargent in real life, I know they are not his best work, but I had to take my picture next to it.
Teyekanik: thanks bro. Great crits... I appreciate it.
COmbustion: thanks mate
Mathew: nice ring wraith doot.
Everyone else is doing so well, I'm fairly down on my painting so I have nothing to post today. sorry.
Spooge: Did you ever feel like you werent going to "get it" with art? I mean was there a time that you thought your work was seriously under-par and wouldnt break into the professional market?
anyone else ever feel this way? How do you combat it? (i.e. how do you retain focus and dedication while facing self doubt)?

Matthew: Nice! Your last two are a giant leap forward I think. But it still feels like the content is an addition to the texture in it and not vice versa. _________________ http://www.stephanart.com |

This is my first post here, so hey everybody, what's up.
I used film stills for ref on these....Hit pause and paint. Good exercise for improving design skills I think.
from Pirates of the Caribbean:
from Underworld:
from Underworld:
this one's from the head:
I spent under 2 hours on each of these. I think that qualifies for speed painting. Tell me if i'm wrong.
Anyway, hope you like.
