Hey guys, been looking at the thread for a while now and I never posted anything. . . . well I just wanted to show you some work that Ive learned from many of you.
Spooge -- you always seem to pick the perfect colours and know exactly what to do with them. I try to study your paintings as best I can but im still having a hard time grasping how they ALWAYS turn out so well. Jaw dropping masterpieces!!
Zhuzhu -- now theres a style of painting I rarely see. Makes it more facinating to see something like that brought to the table. btw, thanks for introducing artrage, its something else.
Ceenda -- your paintings always work out to a perfection, i doubt there is ever a pixel side by side thats ever the same great detail !
Hardcore -- damn I love all the textures you have in your work:) Still trying to duplicate them in mine.......but its not working out too well
Tiger -- im liking your new aproach to the comic style, especially the dick tracy one.
Mathew -- Im even getting things off your quick quick sketches.
Everyone else in this thread -- I regret not taking art class but i have to thank all of you for helping me catch up:)
So anyway, here's one I did today. . . i'd love to hear some of your comments because I cant get any advice from anyone else like you guys

Great stuff everyone! This thing moves too fast, can't keep up with the pace! Nice to see such a large variety of subjects and areas being covered by the multitude of talented artists.
Everyone is doing great!
Zhuzhu, I am really impressed by your paintings.
Matthew, you're our Sijun mascot and hero
Crazy quick:

Henrik > Fast or not, I like it.
Last week I got cement dust into my eyes. Haven't been able to draw properly after that (and propably before that, too). I tried to paint something but, at lenght, it proved to be too agonizing.

Spooge: hey, you mustn't take names to yourself. I'd never dream of calling you an I*********r. Thanks for the kind words. You hit the nail on the head, when you imagined me thrashing away at the canvas. What I lack in method, I compensate with serendipity and blind luck! You might deride the 'effortless art thing', but sometimes I'd like to just sit down and paint, with a proven, solid methodology, and without intelectual convulsions and hesitance disrupting every brushstroke.
Does any of this make sense?
Anyway, here's a WIP from my morbid fascination with the Eastern Front. I'll add the Russian and German combatants later.
Henrik and Popeye: great stuff

ok well, I see we're still artraging so I might as well jump in. . .I know this is a speedpainting thread but maybe just a little more time invested wouldn't hurt

Hi everyone!
I've been lurking on the forum on and off for a couple of weeks and I have to say I'm damn impressed. This has to be one of the most entertaining and stimulating websites on the planet. Kudos to everyone.
So I thought I'd join in and try my hand at speedpainting - see below for my first effort and my first ever portrait (seriously). I used a cool pic I took with my T610 phone and, with a copy of Gary Faigin's Facial Expression book beside me, started off.
I did have a draft finished within about 40 minutes - but since it is my girlfriend I thought I'd better put some more time into it. So the final tweaks took another 2 hours... it's not really finished yet - some proportions are wrong - hair not right.
My trouble is that I am forever fiddling & tweaking with images in an effort to get it right - whereas I really admire the minimalist style I see in this thread. I'll attempt to be a regular poster... when I get back from holiday - promise. I really want to improve.

Actually what's wrong with my sketch is that the other side of her face needs to be shown more, it's only a little bit of shadow missing... but it's not quite right otherwise... ah well - I'll fix it another time. |
