zhalimuto: I love Lost in Translation! (that's where you got your reference right? She's gorgeous, beautiful choice and beautiful rendering)

edit: forgot a painting, I don't think I've shown this one yet:

Used a reference for once and I learned so much more. Definitely going to use references more often.

Obviously need a lot of work using brush strokes more efficiently. When it comes to rendering drapery with pencil, no big deal, but with painting, dear god. Embarassed There's just too much going on at once.

ultrahsu, i'm really amazed by the loose and confident aspect of these latest pieces.

matthew: though still using your own codes, you're improving for sure.

bravo peeps!

Welcome back Chthonic Divinity!

I chose to draw some this evening (inspired by hpx sketching spree). Analog mediums always hated me, so I went digital. Most are faster, one is slower (jumping guy, I mess up big time in complex scenes going too fast). The head one is just some inane telephone doodle, but posting 3 pics felt more fun than just 2..

I did an update on this, from some tips from people.

So, here is the older version and the edit underneath.

This thread moves so damn fast! Keep up guys.

If Painter equals pain, then paintings must also be pain things.

Nice to do this kind of referenced crap every once in a while, to relieve that pain.

ok last 1st position stealing in a while.

You guys are very kind and once again I wanna thank everyone for your support and for keep giving me help, comments and tips. I really appreciate it. Smile

Critique is something that I am used to though and the most of my teachers I had this term really didn't like my works and thought that I am way too much illustrating. heh I remember my color theory teacher was like -"hey wait a minute that is a romantic style you are doing now" and I was like -"hmm u think"? according to him the rules is to give every tone a color and not make it white or black, he wouldn't like these pictures that I am posting beneath here. I guess I know about these rules but if one look at the old masters they used both bright and dark and that worked great in my eyes.

But you know guys it isn't all that bad and these Abstract color teachers really know their way with color, they only focus on color and balance in the picture and this alot can be learned from I believe.
One story from this term is that we had one visiting teacher at the end of this term. We were doing a lot of landscape pictures which he helped out with. After every painting was finished he made some comments and gave us some advice and when he came to my painting he was like, -"well this guy doesn't know anything about painting but still he can make interesting paintings" and then he was like standing there and was observing the painting.
He was referring to cubism and simplifying but I said something like why make a cube when u can add a quick detail with the pallette knife. Well anyway, I found it be a bit harsch but I didn't make any fuzz about it since he had his view and I hade mine and I know by now that it can be good to get critique aswell, and hmm maybe he was right too, me don't know anything about anything sniff...
Still though I am not that easy with myself either cause I believe it is a good thing to be harsch with oneself and never be satisfied with the paintings cause if one is u stop looking for faults in them, but this u guys know about already.

ok enough rambling, smoggie - was that good enough English for you?

here's some firewood to add to the rambling.
U might wanna know that this is how I usually work, first I make this first sketch beneath here and if it is good and has potential I add some more stuff and add some surrounding to it. If it doesn't work I keep making changes above and see if I can make something else out of it. this time in the second one which was an overpaint while I was at it I made the soldier sit down and aim. Don't think anyone of them worked though so I abandoned them hence the result beneath.
It can be a good work process though or very messy so it has to be carefully waged and measured otherwise recycle and start over haha.
These goes to the recycle bin now:

thanks again guys. Smile
Matthew
