I'm just saying that you'd probably be better off defending yourself with ballet lessons than capoeira. Unless of course you plan on using the all powerful "Au Batido" which would make your opponent....uh....wet his pants in laughter? |

Capoeira does rock, and can be used very effectively.
The "dancing" motions of capoeira has a reason behind it:
Brazil used, until 1888, african slaves as their main source of manpower.
Capoeira was invented by the slaves as a form of practicing a martial art and disguise it as some sort of "tribal dance" to keep their masters from feeling intimidated.
I suspect that you have not had an opportunity to actually see a live exhibition of a capoeira "match".
Match is not in its true sense because in a capoeira circle the objective isn't to strike the other down...but rather to combine your moves with the other's to create a seamless sequence of attacks and evasive actions. I can guarantee that a well-treined capoeira dancer/fighter is not something to sneer at.
Please don't compare my country's culture to smelly bodyparts... |

Yes. I know.

I can guarantee that a well-treined capoeira dancer/fighter is not something to sneer at. Yeah, it's something to poke fun at.
How many UFC/Pride Fights/Ect. fighters let alone champions are capoeira pros, or use capoeira in the ring. Yeah that's what I thought.

I suppose your talking about Brazil. I'm talking about a martial art and how it's inferior, not Brazil.
But if you want talk about a REAL brazillian martial art, try Jiu Jitsu! |

I love jets, and cows are evil. That's why I love that Jets vs Cow game on that site. The missiles were well done.
I wish someone would emply a true Aikido practitioner in a martial arts game. The opponent accrues insult instead of injury and is finally forced to walk off in shame. |

I think the reason that capoeira isn't in UFC, is that all the competitors in UFC are hicks, and red necks havn't discovered capoeira yet.
I love capoeira. I train it. It inspired me to create this game. Show me the guy's site who loves jiu jitsu. Where's that game?
When we do demonstrations with other martial arts schools, they want us to go last because the audience gets bored with eveything else after we play.
I hear shaolin monks are supposed to be pretty good fighters too, but they don't seem to be interested in UFC either...

I love capoeira. I train it. It inspired me to create this game. That's great, the game was good too. I just happen to think capoeira is kind of like the joke of the martial arts world.

Okay, so they put the eye candy at the end of the show. So what? Eye candy has no substance. Just like a movie jam packed with special effects and no story. It's weak, there is no meaning behind it. Sure, caporiea "fighters" can be coordinated acrobats that can move to a beat. And thats great. But as a fighting style, it's inefficient.
I hear shaolin monks are supposed to be pretty good fighters too, but they don't seem to be interested in UFC either... At least they have religion to excuse themselves. |

I was hoping that my pic would make my tone obvious... I think the last time I saw a UFC championship was maybe the 3rd or fourth one. A jiu jitsu fighter could probably kick my butt, I train capoeira mostly for the art, but I spared my kung-fu budy a while back, and didn't do too shabby... landed plenty of hits and got him in a cesora (sissor take down) pretty flashy move, but worked just fine on him. Any of you guys actually train anything? |

Actually, Capoeira does rock. But, I guess if people wanted to have some real fun they could check out your web page, right Biseor?
Oh that's right! Silly me, it doesn't exist anymore. |

I value the "art" in "martial art". I trained kung fu and judo myself, but not to "kick more ass than other people".
The visual aspect of combat sports are what is of greatest appeal to me. I like to see things and observe movements. Even the televised XYZ championships are purely for your visual pleasure...because you want to see it. Prizefighting has since long ago been all about eye candy.
In modern day society we have no real need for knowing how to beat people up. And don't tell me you'd trade your life for your wallet if you ever were to get mugged.
In terms of "combat efficiency" i think the army's unarmed combat training is probably what you're looking for Biseor. |

Capoeira, like any of the more acrobatic martial arts, will get you strong, quick, and agile. It may not have the rips, tears, break, pokes, etc, that some of the more brutal styles have, but someone who's good at it will certainly have a leg up...way up in the air. :] If you watch a master fight a novice in it...the master will rarely spin around upside down. He could, but he won't, because in general simple=better. |

about the capoeira/fight comments.
Being from Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, specifically, I've had the chance to see, first hand, peops dance to it... and also had friends do it. While I much prefer Jiu Jitsu, Capoeira can be perfectly used as either a synchronized dance (it's amazing when you get good people) or a fighting style. Yes, it does work... I've had friends do a couple crazy things in tight situations, that's all. |
