Hey there... I've taken, like, a year-long break from art in general, and I'm trying to get back in, so I did this CG attempt today, and I'd like to know what you guys think...
it's based on this cover: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0793509629/ref=sib_dp_pt/103-4719392-4169435#reader-link
I did a freehand sketch, inked it over, then had to used my digital camera to get the ink on my box (my scanner is blown out. :/ ), then I used PSP 6 layers to do all the cg.. anyway, the links:

(I kinda like the red one better cause I never got the color balance quite right.)
Any comments (even harsh ones) greatly appreciated!

hi lopar.
Welcome to sijun.
geez... 376 views, and not a single sijuner could leave you a comment.
Lazy buggers!
Well,
Maybe i can help you out...
Here was my quick attempt at duplicating the guitar freak image (about 25 mins) I could have kept on rendering it, but im a busy man:
Here's the process animation if you want to see it:

Anyways, I think you're going about working your image all wrong. Start out by putting the reference image in the corner of your canvas, and don't start putting down solid lines right away, because you will be constrained to them. If i've learned anything from the masters here at sijun, you block in your colors first, then slowly add shapes and just keep rendering it. If something doesnt look right, paint right over it, or move it with the marquee.
Also, DON'T USE THE DODGE/BURN TOOL FOR HIGHLIGHTS and SHADING cause the colors will be all wrong! (it's acceptable in some cases, but this doesnt apply here). Dodge and burn should be used for highlights on shineys and finishing touches.
On a final note,
When you're posting, usually if you make peeple click on a link to see your image, they're too lazy and won't click it haha.
just put the img tags around your links.... o, and dont make those images so damn big.. people on dial up wont bother looking.
That's about all i have to say.
Hope i was of some help! _________________ "Man! I just noticed that I write a lot of fragment sandwiches!" |
