This is the first post I've posted here with some of my work.
Oro is a character that I'm working on in PS. Everything began in PS and so far is around 3 hrs total. I'm hoping to finish it either tonight or tomorrow. This was more of a, "I'm bored so I'll play around for a bit" kinda moment.
Anyways, here's the WIP:

Cool.
The values of the skin seems a little confused or unfocused, and lacking in range... he might even be translucent, as if made of alabaster... Decide where and what the light is, then imagine the rays hitting his surface. It might help to imagine him as a collection of simplified objects, cylinders and eggshapes... And add a few lighter spots, a few darker ones...
The deltoid and serratus could be tweaked, but otherwise the anatomy is pretty good. Nice idea, would look cool with some outdoors background, like maybe a mountaintop or something... ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Thank you Steven for the response. I was trying to have the light hitting from forward of him and a bit above and from the picture plane but I don't think it's coming across. I was trying to give a bit of backlighting to help out the form also. I haven't gotten to touch this in the past two nights like I had wanted to. This was something that I started doodling while bored at work and just wanted to finish, nothing spectacular.
Yeah, the deltoid's shape has been bothering me also. I really didn't want it to look as tensed as it is and when I went with it just being a curved surface it came out really bland and bare which was something I didn't want. It was a major contrast in form from the rest atleast to me. The serratus is off if I'm going to be 100% anatomically correct but I was liking the way it looked so I just left it alone and added a small amount of contrast.
Just recently was when I stared doing colored work so this is still all a learning experience. I've done little peices here and there over the years but it's mostly been black and white linework. Rarely have I had the opportunity to do color and flesh it out like this.
Are you thinking I should up the contrasts to define the light source a little better or just redefine the lightsource altogether? I don't know why but I get nervous about upping the contrast in a lot of my pics because I'm afraid of losing detail. It's some weird psychosis I have.
Anyways, thank you for the comment and I love the work you're doing on the Android Blues WIP that you got going on in here. _________________ Kyphur

Ok, now it works, I can see.
I like the char a lot, I think the muscles anatomy is good, particular, not totally real, but perfect for thi kind of character.
I'm not sure about the composition, but it's a wip, so you can improve it in any moment.
I think you should try to use some other color for the skin, specially for the wings.
"I'm hoping to finish it either tonight or tomorrow."
Why man? Are you bored by it? I think this isn't a good approach to draw, you should draw something that you like so much that you can't never stop! I think this is a good start for an interesting piece, keep it up man.
PS: sorry for my english, I hope you understand. _________________ Gabriele Fabbri

Insanelight> Thanks and don't worry about the english problem, I understand enough to get the point. Plus your english is pretty good!
This was something I started out of boredom and is one of my first works without the use of linework done in Photoshop. The composition was just something I threw down, while playing at work the otherday and was really quick and done with a mouse. Then I took it home and started cleaning it up in with my tablet. I'm going to be working on the wings and finishing them up with a type of translucency where you can the veins and such hopefully.

Yeah, I'm just trying to get down finishing stuff within a couple of days rather than starting something and then stopping and then starting up something else. It's a bad habit that I need to break. _________________ Kyphur

I did an overpaint to clarify what I meant, I hope you don't mind. The basic drawing is sound, just the light-shadow that has to be adjusted. I over-emphasized the highlights a bit just to make it clearer. This is strong but diffuse lighting, and the character may look too shiny now. But the principle is there.

Steven> Thanks man for the overpaint! I know what you mean about the contrasts and what not and know that they're fairly weak in this. This is actually my first painting strictly without linework and I'm still fairly new to coloring. Just trying to get down fleshing out volume and mass this way.
I haven't had a whole lot of time to do my own stuff though here lately. I'm doing a couple of 3D art tests trying to get a job doing something other than what I'm doing now. I'd rather be a concept artist but I know I lack a lot of color work and some other things. This is just me doing practices to try and get my skills up for more finished projects later.
Damn, I like your overpaint. It answers a lot of questions I had not only about this but about a couple of other things that are unrelated to this peice.
Thanks again Steven! When I get done with these art tests I'll probably move back to him and finish him up. _________________ Kyphur
