spooge >> what program(s) do you like to use? I really like the rough feel of your paintings, but in PS all I can get is the solid-color smooth style. (or maybe i'm just missing something about photoshop?)

Starglider- this painting was done with only round PS brushes out of the tube. I did paint over this image http://www.goodbrush.com/gallery/albums/watercolor/acrylic_figure003.jpg rotated 90 degrees and slowly started with the bigger shapes. It did not take very long because I did not do much to it, just where I needed to. A big concern for me is how much activity or contrast can I have in a shape and still have the shape maintain its context in the image, or does it still read? The silhouette of the main character is a dark, less active (lower contrast) shape. Oil painters do exactly the same thing, oil is so good at running together and making rich textures that you have to figure out where to calm things down to make the image hang together. Similar for watercolors.

But the most important thing is the shapes that you use, and that relies on form and eventually, drawing. If you can draw well, you can do just about anything you want. That is where I am trying to get better, drawing and design, which are really the same thing. That is where I would suggest you put your time, dont worry about techniques. Look at kchens drawings at concept art. Solid forms create well designed shapes. Then you will be surprised how much easier it gets.

Alen, answers your question as well?

zhuzhu- I have played a little with artrage, I like it a lot, but it is not very flexible, esp at my noob status. It seems a little like painter, it stamps itself on things very strongly. But PS does the same thing. Interesting question.

Thank you Tedsuo, I'v been working quite a bit studying light, after
discovering ArtRage this has become much easier, cause ArtRage blends its
colours beautifully.

Here's another one.
