In homage to Matt Groening. Too bad this sucks.

[edit] -- I learned to spell "homage" correctly. Fixed.

As far as I know they stopped at production series 4 of futurama (5 seasons on air though) and aren't bringing it back.

There is a petition somewhere online that is trying to get it back though

Also - GREAT PAINTING! love it.

Thank you all very much! And yes, Futurama will be missed...

Matthew: No, don't have any steps to show unfortunately, aside from the scratchy linework layer I think, but that won't help much. =/

sear: Yeah - this actually stemmed from our discussion. Not sure how "realistic" it looks, but, it's more "rendered" at least. I was just playing around, with what we discussed in mind. Merci! =)

wassup: I'm honored by your presence. Sear had liked the previous painting I did, and spoke to me about some realistic 2D rendering of Homer Simpson he once saw which he thought was cool/interesting. I felt like trying to do something like that with a character I enjoy to see how it would come out -- it was an interesting experience. Thanks!

wow very cool!
Are there any changes to get this as a poster?
(I know this little copyright issue, but maybe groening would buy and print it?)

Very refreshing. You should pick some more cartoon characters and do a series of these. What about one of the Flintstone hotties? Wilma or Betty...hmmmm?

I agree. No more of this "I suck" business, Mr. Frost.

You're probably my favourite digital artist, period. So when you insult yourself like that, you're insulting me. And I'm a big, burly, white man with short fuse, baby! Mad

Wow, I thought this thread had died. =]

Thanks a lot folks. I will refrain from saying such things in the future. It's a long-time habit -- we've been through this a couple times already on these very boards over the years.

Thank you all very much for your encouragements! It's nice to see people liking this.

Lunatique: Hey! Thanks man.

gLitterbug: Hey you! =) Realizing how good I am is difficult with the awesome talent on these boards and on CA. I think you understand what I mean. Art is but a hobby for me, I don't it professionally, and only get to paint once in a blue moon, sadly, due to my very demanding and tiring day job at ubi.

Starglider2: Hehe, well, that's the idea, as much as possible (at least for me and my method of rendering), though I cheated the shadow casting and lighting a LOT to keep the form of the character as best as we can imagine him through the cartoon. I really need to work on the hair and cloth rendering the most... Thanks!

Flush: Hey! Thanks man. Quite honored! May do more in the future, dunno. I first felt like drawing the whole cast of Futurama that way together in a single comical picture, but figured it would be WAY too much work for a little hobbyist painting.

Kimchi: Hahaha - thanks a lot. =) I'm honored.

Kyphur: So do I. =]

Cheers all!
Frost

really good lighting and material there, did you use reference? i mean for the lighting, or did it just come naturally because you've done it a lot or something like that?
