was this inspired by the story of the cyclopse? they gave the gods 1 eye so they could see the future. Except they got screwed and all they could see is their own death. If they went against it they got totally screwed over even more. If you ask me, I sure wouldn't want to be staying at home during that tornado, or getting on that last flight, or driving down that death road.

I would like to just not know. It'd be twice as scary if I knew beforehand i think. "you must go into the woods on april 4th and be stabbed and raped by 6 large men". if you were a cyclopse, you better let it happen or else.

Want to know when you'll to die?? Huh?? HUH??!!

Ok...no worries...
Try this:

http://test.thespark.com/deathtest

I did the test and this is the result...

Mark your calendar or Palm V.
Ryan (that's my real name), you can expect to die on:
June 3, 2048
at the age of 65 years old.

On that date you will most likely die from:
Cancer (44%) Cancer?! Man! that's boring...
Heart Attack (13%)
Third Degree Burns (7%)
Alien Abduction (7%) uh-huh...
Contagious Disease (7%)

Maybe so Synj, but, if you knew, wouldn't it make you live life to the extent that most people would never do? Trying new and different things. Taking a stand agaist something when most people back down. I think it would be more of a blessing if you knew because you would know that you had to make every day of your life count and not let it merely drift by like so many people do.

Puck? How retarded. This might be news to you but we're dying as we type stuff out in this forum. Might as well experience new things now, since we're all as good as dead anyway. It doesn't take knowing how I'll die to be motivated to do what I love.

I was asked today this simple question:
If you could be told the exact time/day/year you will die, would you want to know or do you want death to be a surprise?

Or course, I would like it to be a surprise to me. I couln't let my life be ruined by me knowing the time it will end. If I knew, I would try to get out of that somehow.
I would go mad waiting for that day.

That's admirable, synj. But still i think i wuld enjoy my life alot more if i knew when it would end.

1 day before, for example, i could take a run and kiss our queen in front of 10.000 cameras before the security caps my ass. Or something silly like that... or i could start my own crazy design company and tell every customer who doesnt like what we make to fuck off cause i know in 2 weeks it wont matter anymore anyhow.

The only problem would be that maybe by taking all these risks and going for anything you may actually find true happiness in life, making your death even more terrible...

I would not like to know.
I would focus my life on this specific date somehow if I knew.
I guess its more fun to watch a movie without knowing exactly when it ends no?

However its a good way to think it the samurai-way: "we're all already dead, so why bother to know when you go?"

When you think of it it may sound depressing: "We begin to die as soon as we are born".

So you might as well get every single second out of the time you have.

If you realize that the world does not care if you are alife or not, and that it will continue to turn with or without you, you can gain strength through that- do what you want to do and do it NOW.

.. hmm this sounded like some speech of a television preacher or something

Makes you kinda want to see into the future hehe see if you go up to a girl and ask her out, would she agree or reject you? even know its not possible...
=) don't make me get into that again

-S

PS. Knowing when you die is like being able to tell and see the future, which isn't possible... and there are millions of reasons why it isn't... though if i could i damn right would

Not when, but HOW is the question that bothers me. When is quite irrelevant, it'll happen when it happens. C'est la vie. Pun intended.

How then? Fast, painless and unexpected is the way to go I suppose... But that doesn't give you the opportunity to settle things properly here before death. Slow and drawn out is something I would never submit to, though.

But there is NO fucking way I'm gonna die before I've made at least one movie. No way.

"In my birth as E'jja I chose my death..... And by gun nor knife it be...."

Cheery subject, btw.

Newp, I wouldn't want to know when I will die. If I'm going to die, then there'd be no way to avoid it unless I can see the outcome of each action I take. Otherwise, I would.

im the lead-guitarist of a rockband... why do i mention that? cause people in that position are dying awfully often very young -> thats just an urban legend that you might heard of a few times... and thats what people around me say and im about to believe it... SHIT, im just 22 years young and i dont want to die next saturday!!!

i want to tell ya another story of mine (if i didnt already bother you ):

im one of those stupid people that believed that we all may die on july 99 -> i BELIEVED in that since 97 and ive changed my life totally because of that faith i had! i figured out what i REALLY wanted to do with my life and decided that NOTHING could stop me in following my life-goals -> then in the following weeks (just as some examples) i did quit my boring job, married the girl i loved (i still love her BTW ) and tried to form a band with which i wanted to become famous... (and the rest of these two years i did much more that im proud of)

see, its year 2000 and i still live -> but did my past decisions harm me? do i regret them? NO! sure, im not famous (until now... he he... ) but i see it this way: in these two years (97 to 99) i reached more goals than what i wouldve reached if i havent believed in that id only have two years left - you understand?

now, what has really changed for me personally since 97? a few examples:

right now i do what i really like and get paid for it.

right now i spend every second i can with my lovely girl that ive married.

right now im able to still push my band-thing that i have now.

right now im a totally different person than back in 97.

right now i can be proud of all the things i did the past years.

right now i already left my footprints so that much people will remember me in a positive way...
(...if i will ever die )

and finally to answer neos question: "If you could be told the exact time/day/year you will die, would you want to know or do you want death to be a surprise?"

no. i wouldnt want to know the exact time i WILL die -> but i would want to know the time i PROBABLY COULD die.

i hope you understand my answer by understanding my little story up there

and:
be kind with me -> im still stupid...

If you know where when and how you die and in what condition it means ur invunerable for a period of time. Say you are told that you will die in 2060 in a car accident at full health. There is no way you can avoid that fate, but until then you can do anything you want in the world, and no matter what you do it wont kill you, unless u drink and drive in 2060, then ur asking for trouble

I wouldn't want to know. Because you wouldn't be able to change it. So why worry about it? On the other hand. If fate is flexable enough to change by an event caused by an insignificant mortal. I would want to know.

But regardless if i know or not..

I would rather burn out than fade away (to take a quote from highlander).

I'm totally serious about that. I have been near that door, and I know how I do not what to go.

The brightest flame burns quickest.

na, ive seen some dim matches go out pretty quick

overall id wanna know how i die, so then i could prevent it hehee...cause theres no such thing as fate. time has not happened yet. nothing is set.

and think about it, if fate did exist, just by knowing your time of death would alter it completely, because you would be acting differently for the rest of your life from before you knew.....so....like, um yea.

Without fate is there such a thing as a future? Since a future is preset?
Just wondering.
