I bought and payed for an Athlon 1.4 Ghz processor about three weeks ago... SO I got the parts and I installed the chip and it blew up.. righ on the board... so I sent it back under warranty and I just got the new chip back from woaranty on thursday.

anyways, the heatsync and fan I had for it wasnt powerful enough, got to 99 degrees Celcius but the chip was ok. so I went and bought a volcano 6u Heatsync and fan yesterday and put it on.. but the ft was tight.. when I got it on it crushed the top of my 1.4Ghz CPU... the warranty wont cover it.. so I just lost 200 dollars..

so I bought a duron 950 to replace it till moday when I order another 1.4

Hah. I feel your pain, sort of. Awhile back my old Athlon 1GHz overheated when the fan died, so I went ahead and bought a replacement XP 1700+ -- but that wouldn't work until I updated my motherboard's BIOS to support XP processors.

That sucked, because I couldn't update the BIOS until I installed a processor that it supported, so now I have a backup Duron 850 just for that purpose.

I got the BIOS updated, the XP 1700+ is installed, and I also use the Volcano Cu 6+... but I installed it fine. Make sure to use good thermal grease whenever you get the new CPU -- try to find some Arctic Silver II if you can, your Athlon will thank you for it.

Damn, man!!!

HAve you tried those Dell machines with p4 and no active cooling? You can't hear that the machine is on, adn it runs fine....
I'm an Athlon person myself, but if I had the money I would by Intel just for the hell of it

Anuways, Awetopsy....f*** it, go outside and do....eh, something. I would. (I really wouldn't)
