so I've put her through the blender more times than I'd care to admit..
I'm satisfied (for now) with the lineart. my big issue is how new I am to coloring (of any kind.. cg, traditional media..)

she's looking overall a bit too smooth to me. I have the values about where I want them, but she needs texture. I'd like her gear to look a little scratched up and worn, but I haven't got the slightest idea where to start..

I've experimented with a few custom brushes, but either I have no idea what I'm doing (most likely) or custom brushes aren't the way to go, because I get a very uniform, unnatural look..

any ideas?

when using photoshop I like to collage textures onto the drawing and then paint transparently on top of them. Or you could do it the other way around and put the texture on top of the drawing and mess with the transparency and such.

i don't think your going for realism, but colors in real life are more desaturated, and have varaition in the actual color in the shadows, highlights, and normal. I'd do what everybody else said though. maybe try working with a lower opacity brush to make strokes show up a little bit...

jaw is too sharp. jsut round it out some. skinn tone seems way too yellow. for that matter, each area is just one colour, with no variation. different shades would help the look... even if u r not nessicarily looking 4 realizm in the final look.
hey and hell... just play around. expirememnt just slapping colours down with different brushes. you can only teach yourself something new

i agree with the others, she is a bit too manly, but as for the colors and what not, i personally like it. she looks good being more of a cartoon and less of a real person. but i really don't have any suggestions seeing as how i am a newbie in the photoshop department.
