I'm actually surprised I haven't seen a topic about this here, unless I happened to miss it :/ . Honestly, I had a great time watching this movie. I loved the cartoony style used for the characters (well, mainly the sloth and the squirrel, they looked awesome), and there were some really hilarious parts as well. The opening scene with the squirrel has to be one of the funniest pieces of animation I've seen in a long time. His movement and expressions alone made me laugh. Although it may not seem as polished as a disney animated film, it didn't really matter. For example, sometimes the backgrounds weren't very detailed, or parhaps left as just a coloured haze... but I thought it actually helped resemble the arctic better (that's what an iceland appears like anyway most of the time).
All in all, a great film imo. Had many parts that everyone can laugh at, unlike some of the disney/pixar films where I usually find most of the humour is for the kids (and rightfully so I guess). A great story, great animation, and great characters. The squirrel gets the number one spot of course, followed by the sloth and the kid. Every time the squirrel popped back in the story, a lot of the people in the theatre started laughing before he even did anything - he was really that funny. Whoever worked on the animation for that character I must applaud for their work, a really great job it was.
Btw... I recall someone posting a matte painting they did of one of the animals frozen in ice, and I immediatly remembered it when I saw it in the film. Great job! That was quite a funny part of the film too.
Anyway, I'd like to hear other people's thoughts if they've seen it. If you haven't seen it, go! We don't get too many animated feature films, so don't pass it up. |

*talking really, really fast* I haven't seen it yet, but I'll probably go within the next week.
I saw a trailer for it at a movie. It was hilarious, and the animation was great. I think it was before the TV trailers started coming out. A while ago (uh...early December).
Well, if it was on TV around that time I didn't notice it.
Sorry for the babble. I'm a little hyper right now. Too much sugar and caffine.
Hm. I know someone who might like the squirrel part a lot...

Yup Great movie! Ya the animation's polish wasn't up to Monsters Inc or Shrek, but it didn't have to be. It had plenty of gags and humor... love the Scrat. I think they could even get Scrat to his own animated short.
The matte paintings with the animals frozen in ice someone posted was by dicet (I saw on another forum.) That scene had to be one of the funniest parts.

It was hilarious. I love all animated films these days, though.
I didn't think it was as good as Monsters Inc., but I found it to be much better than Shrek (I didn't really like Shrek). The humor was very well placed, and at sometimes kinda 'mature'. It was a pleasure to watch.
Visually, I think the landscape work was among the best I've seen. The characters (especially the tigers) weren't quite as good as I had hoped.
Overall, a definite must-see. |

I dunno.. it had good parts to it.. but I thought it looked quite 2-D in parts.. alot of the backgrounds of mountains and sky looked like matte paintings.
Still It was a good movie. |

Just got back from it. Pretty faboo @:-D
Bit slow here and there, but overall enjoyable. Sif you couldn't love that little squirrel guy *grinz* I liked it when they were going through the cave, showing dicet's mad drawing skills, and both my Dad and brother leaned over to me and said "Hey! There's your desktop!" *laughs*
One thing tho... after 2 on special tickets, one regular ticket and 3 ice creams, I no longer had the $40 I walked in with. In my day... |

But Shrek had less slap stick jokes
I'm still a bit puzzled about that 'train-iceberg' joke.. (When the party suddently halts near a mini volcano, stop and a huge block of ice passes between the viewer and them.) What's up with that ?
Oooh one other thing ! Diego's EYES !!! In the dark !! *shivers in delight* ![](images/smiles/icon_eek.gif) |
