What do you guys think of the temporary 'towers of light' memorial in NYC?
I gotta say that I think it's pretty cool. I think it serves all the purposes they were hoping to, and it looks damn cool too. |

It is cool.
My dad probably loves it. He's the "Lighting Director" at CBC in Vancouver, and is fascinated by anything to do with light. |

I wish I could see it from here. It must be amazing! Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the continent.
I was half-watching Oprah today (one of the few times in my life) and she had someone on who survived burns on over 82% of her body from being in the N. tower lobby on 9/11. I don't remember her name, but her husband's name was Brad or something and her kid was Tyler or Trevor. |

I wish I could see it too. It looks gorgeous.
Jr, it stretches an entire mile into the sky. Absolutely striking.
I do agree that it is somewhat bittersweet though, and I do feel sadness when I see it. It reminds me of the spirits of the victims rising up. Rather symbolic and quite perfect if you ask me. |

I love the lights - I think it looks soooo cool! NYC needed something to "fill" the gaping hole there! It's great to have something new to look at, instead of being reminded of the void...
Saw the special last night... Bawled several times! Those French filmmakers captured some crazy sh*t that day! |

Can anyone point me to a good picture of this?
Didn't find much more than a thumbnail in a news article. Looked pretty neat though.
The other day I saw this photo series in a Belgian art mag called Addict.
The artist had made pictures of street scenes in NYC with the shadows of the twin towers painted on the streets. It was pretty impressive looking. Hard to explain though. |

It's great. Is it really blue? The blue makes it look kind of cheesy lightsabre-ish.
Still pretty cool though...
thanks for the linkt btw. |

It truly is awe-inspiring.
I lost someone very close to me on September 11th. A firefighter; my best friend. Not a single day goes by where I don't think about that horrific day. |

Ye, what kind of projectors are those? I want a couple in my room too!
(you could probably burn people up like an x-ray if you aimed this huge flow of photons at them) |

I'm from Edmonton, the same city as the company that created, set-up, and run the lights that are used in the memorial of New York. We had the lights, or the same type of lights here during the World Track and Field Championships in 2001 at one of our many city parks. The beams were all split but they are quite cool. Each projector is about the size or slightly larger than a person. I took a few shots. One during the day and one in the evening. Take a look and you'll see what kind of technology is used to help create this memorial. People in Edmonton are really proud of this contribution to rememberance. Here's what our lights looked like.
