U could always try downloading opencanvas3 and view the event files (they show the entire painting process and have a very small file size)
A trial version of opencanvas can be found at
http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/oc/oc3/download.html

I have one for...er...people who don't know how to use the brushes in Photoshop 7: http://www.gorblimey.com/rubbish/brushes.avi . It's not very detailed, and is for total newbies only.

It uses the TechSmith codec...I can see the picture, but maybe you don't have that codec.

Hah, that was actually very entertaining. The hint of a Scottish accent, phrases like "this screeny bit here", and that dropped microphone at the end. Great stuff. Smile

Punq - Haha, glad you found it amusing! I actually knocked my mic over with my elbow at the end, there....

Phil - I used Camtasia. It is an OK tool, but you can't use a resolution much bigger than 1024 x 768 without it hanging up a lot.

Thanks Socar. I'll give it a try.
I'm making some painting tuts and some photography tuts in the near future that will require some "grabbing".

Cheers,

Phil

Does anybody have a link to download the TechSmith codec? I'm having trouble finding it (and running into pay versions Evil or Very Mad ). Windows Media Player keeps giving me an error when it tries to download the codec and my other media players are not working any better, so I'm not sure what else to try.

I feel dumb asking for help with this, but...

Anyway for now, it at least 'sounds' cool Socar ^_^
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The .SSD file is a Painter Script file.

insanelight,

Read this thread at CGTalk's Painter forum:

painter strokes to video

In the last couple of messages I posted in response to karabe's question, you'll learn about this script recorded in Painter 7 and how I was able to play it back in Painter 8.

If I might add a wee hotkey tip to socar myles's tutorial:

Tap on the left brackets [ to decrease a brush size.

Use the right bracket ] key to increase its diameter.

I you want more shorcuts in Photoshop 7 for painting just open up the help (F1) and search 'shortcuts'.
If you are looking for the painting shortcuts then just click on the appropriate link.

There are many, many shrtcuts in Photoshop. These are probably the ones I use most while painting.

alt + click --> selects the color where the mouse is with the eyedropper.
ctrl ( + ), ctrl ( - ) --> increases/decreases the magnification
shift ( + ), shift ( - ) --> changes the painting mode; normal, screen, multiply etc.
shift ( [ ), shift ( ] ) --> increses/decreases the hardness of the brush
any combination of a couple numbers (00, or 50, or 100) --> changes the opacity setting.
as well as jfrancis' suggestion for changing the size of the brush.

but for most beginners, there is no need to learn these until they are comfortable with doing things the longer way.

jfrancis - looking at your experience, you own me... Sad
oh well...

The [ and ] shortcuts are a time saver you know.
and the Alt & Ctrl mode fo the brush is even more effective than the buttons on my tablet!

PS, I'm gonna try this one I found today. Razz
Ctrl + [ , Ctrl + ] to scroll through the layers.

Though I doubt it's usefulness.
